R U a NASCAR Fan...Let's Talk!

Recommended Posts

I used to think Gordon was the sexiest, but not anymore. He IS nasally, I've noticed that too. I think that Kasey is a super cutie and Jimmie Johnson is hot. (I think I must like the goody two shoes!)

Remember Ward Burton? We used to make fun of him because he never moved his lips when he talked!!! He has that deep southern drawl and never moved his lips!! Too funny.

I love love love the NASCAR commercials, my favorite is Dale Jr, Gordon, Stewart and can't remember the fourth guy sitting at a nice restaurant in tuxedos and toast each other, then dump the champagne on their heads. This sport really has the best commercials, I'll watch these over the super bowl ones ANYDAY!!!

Waaard Burton definitely has that West Vaginiaaa drawl... Elliott Sadler has it as well.. I think Ward has a speach impediment as well, so his is really pronounced. I hear he might start racing in trucks or Bush again before long, he's too good a driver to not be in something... What I could never figure out is why Ward's brother, Jeff doesn't have the same accent? I probably shouldn't talk about accents, I definitely have that Tennessee southern drawl... Every time I go to Vegas or California people ask where I'm from.... They'll just over-hear us talking and ask if we're from Georgia or Texas! They all think its "cute". I like that commerical too, I think Jimmy Johnson is the other driver in it.. Its a Chevy Commerical, cracks me up when Junior says "Let's Eat"... They do have some awesome commercials, I always enjoyed the ones with Michael Waltrip and Dale Jr. like they were selling NAPA parts on QVC or something, pretty funny!! I like rain delays and pre-race shows because it gives us fans a chance to get to know the drivers better. I saw one show about all the dogs that different drivers and teams have. I'm a huge dog-lover, so that was cool! I really admire Ryan Newman and his wife Chrissy because they are really active with organizations trying to save animals from being euthanized and finding them homes....

That is what is great about NASCAR, you really get to know who the driver's are and what they care about, It's not all about money like the other pro sports, it's a great big family. AWWWW!!!

Missy ~ I am sorry if I'm one that offended you. I actually started this thread for NASCAR fans and not Stewart fans. That would be too boring. I am in love with Stewart a.k.a. Smoke (comes from his early days in racing....it was his nickname). I guess I feel free to say anything, within reason of course, on this site b/c I am very limited what I can say to my family. You see, my mom is the BIGGEST Gordon fan and I don't DARE say anything about her man. She can say anything about Smoke, but I'm not allowed to express myself about Gordon. It's been shoved down my throat since day one (I even think DW does this a bit) and it leaves a bad taste. Gordon is a good guy and I'm glad he is going to start showing his real self. My mom didn't believe he cussed!!

Stewart & Gordon have both been punks in their early years like Kyle Bush. I have to giggle when I hear Stewart say the younger ones need to show respect. I agree 100%, but that sort of thing is learned the hard way in most cases with a talented driver with an attitude.....hense the nickname "shrub".

Tony has been called a crybaby by my family as well, but I don't care. Here's the run down in our family: Mom = Gordon, Dad = Jarrett, Brother = Jimmie Johnson, Brother = Stewart, Brother = Anything Dodge, & DH = Stewart (like he has a choice) :heh: .

Chime in your true feelings and I will try not to be so hard on Gordon. I do see your point b/c there are a lot of Stwart fans here, which I was pleasantly surprised. Again, I am sorry if I made you feel unwelcome. I think we should hear from all sides b/c one thing we all have in common is that we're NASCAR FANS....the best fans in the world. We are a big family regardless of your driver.

My mom, Gordon's biggest fan, told me that he had a cleft lip and needed surgery when he was younger. I think this has something to do with the way he talks. I think that's why he also wore a mustache for many years.

Ward Burton....boy, do I miss him. Does anyone remember when he threw something at Jr, I think it was Jr, and said he was going to get his shot gun and just shoot him? I still laugh about that to this day. I loved him. Also, my parents and most of my extended family are from WV. No, we're not inbreeders. :heh: My mom hates it when I say that. :biggrin1:

Okay, I havent posted in a while but keep up with the thread. How about my boy JR.:clap2: :clap2: :ban: his car looked like he had been through WWII but he managed to get an Awesome finish... I watched Inside Nextel Cup and it was funny as they played more in car audio for the incident involving JR and Newman. It was hilarious, he was so pissed at Newman and said someone needed to punch him in the mouth. Newman can win poles but he really can't drive when it comes to racing. My DH gives me a hard time during qulaifying as JR doesnt always do that well, like this weekend 29th starting position. All qualifying does is give them a place to start. DH is a Gordon/Johnson fan :faint::help: . I think what Gordon said about showing the "real Him" now is good, I always thought he and Johnson were bullies, thats the only way they can win... Bullying/Cheating that is. He'll papa Rick Hendrick had criminal problems as well. I can't wait to move back down south so we can start going to more races in person.

I also like SMOKE, he is my favorite second driver... I too was disappointed by them not showing him climbing the fence. I dreamed last night that Smoke married my sister-in-law. A little too much Nascar yesterday. Had to watch everything yesterday since I worked on Sunday...:ban: I like the boys from WV too, Elliot can talk to me anytime in that WV lingo....

We don't all like the same drivers for sure. I'm just not crazy about Girly Gordon and the way he constantly cheated on his beautiful wife. I can't stand the little squirt, but then I don't like "elf ears" (Kurt Busch) either. Hey, like who you like. I love Stewart and not afraid to say so. He says it like it is and he stands behind it. "Smoke Em" Baby!!

Doty ~ That's what I like about you....you call a spade a spade and not afraid to speak your mind. Don't always agree, but one thing is for sure.....we would both fight to the end for Smoke!!

tacwoman ~ You are too funny.....your SIL married my man, huh?! I guess that means I need to get in line. My DH knows my secret fantasy. :rolleyes

Personally, I would like to see more of the "old school" (as DW puts it) kind of racing. Let them bang and grind and then let the fists fly at the end. Like I said b4, I totally disagree with the fine Gordon got b/c I think every driver should get cool down time. That's what used to get Tony in trouble and a lot of press instigated it. It does create some excitement and gives people something to talk about. Oh well, can't wait till Sunday.

What ever happened to the "How bad have you got it" commercials? I miss those. :cry

Hey missy4gordon ~ My mom has one of those life size cardboard cutout things of Gordon. She would sleep with it if my dad would let her....no kidding. He stays in the pantry. :guess One time I put a pink ribbon around his neck and let my brother take the heat. Another time I put a Stewart Parking Only in her garage....she threw it away and I never told her it was me. :heh: We like to tease and joke in our family so we're always doing something to each other. Don't be afraid to chime in and tell us what you think. :biggrin1: I understand where your coming from.

3loves, your family sounds like mine.. We're always giving each other a hard time about our respective drivers.. Sounds like your mom is a hoot when it comes to Gordan.. A life-size cut-out? Haha! I don't know about the cleft lip thing, my dad had one and he sounds normal, but he does wear a mustache to cover it. I think Gordon has a deviated septum or whatever it is that makes people sound that way. I lost a lot of respect for Gordon over the cheating on Brooke deal, but hey... We don't know the real or entire story so, who knows how it really went down... My grandmother and great aunt (83 and 81 years old) are huge Jeff Gordon fans, I can't say anything even remotely offensive about him or they get their feathers all ruffled up.. I have to say that I hope Gordon does show the "real him" if the real him is a little ballsier, he just has always seemed kind of wimpy to me...

Tacwoman.. where are you moving to in the south? Later Guys!

Hey missy4gordon ~ My mom has one of those life size cardboard cutout things of Gordon.

:huggie:

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!?!? SO DO WE!!! It is old and from his rainbow color days, but he is still standing! OMG, how funny is that! We are moving and I am trying to talk my DH into letting it go, but he can't part with it. He's more fanatical than anthing I've seen before.

My Dad also likes Gordon, nobody in our family doesn't, but we have plenty of friends who don't like him!! There was something about his ex, Brooke that I just didn't like, couldn't put my finger on it though, she was always smiling and picture perfect, but.....Not that I think it is ok for him to cheat, if he did.

I don't know how anybody can say Gordon and Jimmie are bullies, I think they are a couple of the wimpier guys racin, they're just that good!! :nervous

I really hope Mark Martin wins the Championship before he retires, he deserves it.

Has anybody heard anything about Sprint buying out Nextel, and Sprint doesn't want to take over NASCAR? ;) I just got used to saying Nextel and now they are going to change??? It should go back to Winston Cup, has a great ring to it.

I agree....there was something about Brooke. I think she made Gordon put up the front he did for so many years. Dr. Phil always says, "No matter how flat you make a pancake, it always has 2 sides." I can't stand a cheater either. I just let that go b/c who knows what really happened.

I don't think Gordon and Jimmie are bullies, but I do think they get more press time than anyone else. Then again, Jimmie does appear out of no where at the end of a race....what the heck? I do wonder now what was being done on pit road. Chad will always have a dark cloud over his head from now on.

I am all for Martin to win the championship!! That man deserves it and he's a racing icon if you ask me. Maybe he's too nice. I love him anyway. I wonder if he still takes Viagra? :heh: Sorry....couldn't resist that one. :biggrin1:

Missy...for you I promise to quit yelling "into the wall Girly Gordon". I really mean that. :scared:

Ok, and I will promise not to wish Tony gets taken out by ANYBODY on the track....well, I will try! :heh:

I'm not going anywhere, I don't know why I was whining like that, it really is unlike me to be such a baby! I apologize again.

You know, I heard somewhere that when Gordon first split with Brooke, him and Tony got to be really good friends. Maybe they still are, so if they can be friends with each other, maybe I can find room in my heart for him too......hmmm, probably not.

That's racin!!!!

In the race at Bristol when the newbie Truax was alongside Gordon and dogging him (because he claimed earlier in the race Gordon bumped him) Tony came up from behind and bumped Truax out of the way to help Gordon out, and of course so he could get by. They may well be friends.

Anyway, stay and be happy and root for your favorite driver. Like I said we don't want 40 some cars out there with no one rooting for them.

Try and like Tony. He may soon be joining our group if he keeps eating those Big Macs :scared:

This has nothing to do with medicine but I've been instucted by Geezer Sue (she apparently is the spokesperson for Pleatman). We had a name for all our doctors. We had an RNY dr. we always referred to as Dr. Hack and Slash. I wonder what the nurses call Pleatman behind his back. This dr. I'm talking about was the only one for a long time that did RNY...not afraid to mention his name either it was Dr. Ediger, and someone always had to go in and fix a liver or something he had done damage to) that I need to put before each remark "I am not a doctor, nor do I know a thing about medicine". This being said I was a nurse for 38 years...go figure what childishness and pettiness on a board will get you.

...

This is the nicest thread on the board actually...this and American Idol. No one is purposely dissing anyone else, and it's all about fun.

I am not the spokesperson for anyone. And, even the most casual observer could figure out that someone is attempting to diss a few people.

All about the facts,

Sue

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
