Hello everyone. I just really need advice from others when it comes to hairloss. I suffer from androgenic alopecia, and my Hair loss is permanent. I was told by my doctor before surgery that my hair COULD shed, but that if I ate enough Protein, I wouldn't have to worry about that. Is there anyone else who suffers from alopecia that would be able to help me out? I was banded on June 8, 2012. Just afraid of being completely bald at 30, that's all.

I dont have alopecia but I did have a similar thing happen to me...I did the hcg diet for 100 days and was only consuming about 400 calories a day. Towards the end of that diet I started to lose a lot of my hair because of my low protein/calorie intake. It took about 3 months to get a handle on it by increasing my Protein and taking a Biotin supplement. Gained all my weight back from that diet of course. Just got banded a week ago and my doc didn't say anything about losing hair but did tell me to be intaking 60-70g of protein daily.

I'm definitely shedding! I'm pretty good, but not perfect, about getting my Protein in. I have been taking Biotin for about a month and the Hair loss seems to have decreased a little bit.

Well thank you for all the input :-) I have actually tried taking Biotin last year (I believe it was 5,000 mcg) or something like that, and it actually caused me to put on weight. I quickly looked online to see if anyone else had experienced this, and there were some other posts on it. Perhaps I just need to try a lower dose. I will just continue to watch my Protein intake for now and see how it goes from there.

I don't have Alopecea, however I do know both surgery and not getting enough Protein in your diet can cause hair loss. I personally take 5000mcg of Biotin daily and am careful to get in all my Protein daily.

I don't think Biotin was the cause of your weight gain, btw. There is no medical evidence linking Biotin to weight gain, in fact, Biotin helps you metabolize fats and carbohydrates more efficiently, helping to actually increase weight loss.

Here's a great article on it: http://www.livestrong.com/article/324249-effects-of-biotin-on-the-weight-loss/

Best wishes!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
