The surgery went pretty good- I ended up having the haital hernia, which saved me $4400 on my out of pocket expensives (YAY!!) I kept reading all the warnings on the gas after surgery and holy cow, they were so right. I feel and look like I have a volleyball inside of my stomach because it's so full of gas. Can you OD on Gas X? haha I was sick of the rollercoaster- very glad I did this. I'm on liquids this first week after surgery, then mush for 2 wks. I'm having a hard time even getting 2 Protein Shakes down per day though- they make me VERY full. I had a thing of yogurt for dinner last night and was stuffed. I hear thats what the 'green zone' is like, and if that's true, I CAN'T WAIT. I tend to get the munchies at night time, and I have had zero problems with that this week. I'm so excited for us :)

I have to a low bmi 31.9, and I'm going to surgery, I have struggled with my weight since I was 11. I am now 21 and I believe in prevention as I believe in cure. I don't want to be 31 and then wishing I done this surgery 10 years ago. I am a very motivated person but when dieting hard I seem to get stuck on 11st6 and it won't go down which is frustrating. I am 5ft1 and my 12st4 weight doesn't belong to me!!! I would though suggest that you are mentally prepared for the changes on your diet, because the band ain't a miracle but a tool. A tool that I need the help to succeed, and with my determination I know I will. In uk people with 30 bmi over are allowed this surgery but self pay.

Hope you make the right decision for you

Alicelopes- Have you had surgery yet? I had surgery about 4 weeks ago with a BMI of 31 and the same issues as you. So far I have no regrets!

I was banded on 10/26 and had my first fill today- up to 3.6cc's. Thanksgiving got me though, and I went up from my 2 wk weigh in (4 lbs.) My dr. was not thrilled. I've found my biggest calorie ruiner is alcohol- and i didn't help that I was at the in-laws for t-giving. Is anyone else having this problem? The fill didn't hurt as bad as I thought it was going to, but I made the mistake of looking at the needle beforehand. That sucker was huge!

Heh. I have inlaws coming for Christmas, so I can see that may become my problem then. I don't know if I can handle Christmas with them and without the booze!

I wish I could say I'm doing great, but my weight has been all over the place. This head hunger thing is killing me. I've now had 3 fills- up to 6cc's and the dr said I should be getting close to the green zone. My portions definitely reflect that, but it's the little things like walking past a candy bowl or grabbing a piece of fudge at Christmas. And again- alcohol. What a failure- ugh!! New Year- new weight loss resolution. Keeping a food diary like I've done before in prior diets. It was the only way I was able to lose before- diary/calorie counting. But now that I have this, I think ill do much better. And the holidays have passed- thank god- no more fudge or eggnog or brandy alexanders. Lets do this.

You can do it, it's all I say. U are not a failure, all this process is a learning curve, and what u have to try to do and must do is not fall in the same mistakes. You just need to get back on track and I believe keeping the diary is the right way. I believe as well once you hit the green zone you will be loving it, and making use of it. Just remember you no longer need to do it alone, the band is with you so you can both work together, as well as all the support in here. Good luck and keep me posted. Lift your head up!!! :)

Hello shackwacky just checking up on you? How you been? How's the surgery?

Hi! Hanging in, not losing any weight since the initial loss, but didn't gain over Christmas and that's a first. I am 3.5 in a 10cc band and get my next fill sometime in the next couple weeks.

I TOTALLY understand the chocolates, cheese and brandy thing. Man, it seemed like every time I looked up this year someone was setting out another plate of goodies.

How's everyone else doing?

Hiya shackwacky I believe when u get the fill you gonna feel restricted. Hahahhahah damn those chocolate and brandy you wish they would look elsewhere. You know shackwacky u gotta ignore them. That's exactly what they want you to do, to eat them, and u giving them the satisfaction. Next time laugh at them, hahha honestly it works. I do it in the supermarket when the bad things are calling my name. Wish u all the best

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
