9 days post op

Recommended Posts

hi friends, i seem to be doing better and moving around better. I plan on going back to work on Monday. The only thing is Im not hungry, not at all, Im doing the best to get my liquids and Protein in buts its very hard. Will I ever get hunger back? I dont like this feeling of being full all the time, it seems to be worse in the am when I get up. I hope that when I get to mush food this will bring my appatite back somewhat. Also, my larger incision is healing nice, no redness or infection, but its pretty tender and also very swolen. Is this normal? seems like my stomach is bigger now than before the surgery. I still have the hiccups and keep burping, not sure what that is either. I hope get to feel normal again and can go out with friends and eat small portions of heathy food. I dont want to have this restriction the rest of my life. Anyone experience this?

Hi!

Today I am 16 days post-op, and today is the very first day I suddenly got really hungry. I mean like really hungry like "I have to have something now or I will pass out" hungry. Up until today, I have had basically zero hunger. It's another week and a half before I start mushy food and now with this hunger I'm thinking "hmm... hope I can make it that long!" Also, I am with you on the burping. I burp constantly. I also had a horrible, horrible, painful gas problem until I went off dairy two days ago. About one hour after I stopped dairy, my gas became 80-90% better. I'm sure your stomach is still really swollen and that's why you aren't hungry. Up to today I've only been able to get in about 300-600 calories. Now so far today I think I've had about 500 and it's only 12:30pm! Enjoy being not hungry while it lasts, because I just had a big bowl of Soup and I'm still hungry!

I'm 8 days post-op and started mushies yesterday but still have no appetite. I'll have moments, but they only last a few minues & then go away. I don't really feel full, just not hungry - more like satieted. I eat maybe 300 cals a day, max. Yesterday was the most I've eaten and it was 1 Protein drink (30g potein), a Jello cup, 3 thin pear slices, and about 2 oz cottagee cheese. It's not bothering me the way it seems to be bothering you, but I do wish I could get my Protein in.

Lack of hunger could be from your healing. If you do have restriction, it's from swelling, plus a tiny bit inherent to having the band in place.

OK....so I am not hungry.....and yet I still want to EAT. Of course this is how I got fat to begin with....eating whether or not I was hungry. I am on day 11 post op and overall have done really well, but that desire to eat eat eat doesnt just go away. This will be my biggest battle as I am addicted to food.< /p>

10 days out and I still have no appetite. I'm eating 2 - 4oz food max for the entire day. But here's a weird little something I've noticed.

It now feels almost like I have two stomachs. I can't think of any better way to describe it. I'll be sitting here and my "bottom" stomach is growling, but I don't feel hungry at all, and my "top" stomach feels full. I haven't eaten yet today because I've yet to feel hungry, I'm just drinking Water (that's all I'm craving). My "bottom" stomach is growling so loud my co-worker heard it, she's about 6 or 8 feet from me. But I don't feel hungry at all.

Wow, talk about multiple personalities...

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
