Realize Band?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how many people have a Realize band.

My doctor does both bands and let us decide.

I had heard that the Realize band is a little more forgiving as far as what foods you can eat, so I went with it.

Sometimes I feel like I must be the only one with the Realize band but I know that is not true.

If you have a Realize band I would like to know how you are doing with it.

Thanks

Hey there! I have a realize band. Its been two months since surgery and I have lost nearly 30 pounds so far. I am doing well with my band, I havent had any complications or problems with it. I have not been stuck on anything yet nor have I vomited. I have 5cc in an 11cc band. There is no food that I can not eat (that I have found so far). I just take my time with little bites and long chews. Good luck to you!

Hey Jerseygirl,

I am doing well with mine too, I was banded 4/25/12. I have 5.2 cc's and I have to take it slower in the mornings but no other problems. I did have one stuck episode but it was my own fault. :(

Glad to hear your doing well and thanks for the reply.

I have the Realize Band. I am only three weeks post op, but so far no complications. By the way, what is the difference in the Realize and the Lap Band?

Here is a side by side comparison between the two..

Hello everyone! I too have the realize band. I was banded 12/9/11 and so far I have lost 50 lbs. I don't know exactly how many cc's I have but I'll find out tomorrow when I go for an adjustment. No complications so far (knock on wood). Only a few episodes of chest pain that might be related to not chewing properly, eating too fast, or a combination of both. I'll see my nutricionist today so I can get all my questions answered.

Have a great day everyone !!

My surgeon said he usually gives realize to the bigger men and lap band to the ladies...

I have the realize band. My surgeon also explained it that this band is more forgiving and less likely to slip when compared to the lapband. I'm 6 months post op and have 7.25cc's in my 11cc band. :)

I have the Realize Band and so does my sister. We both had ours done in May, 2011. I have lost 77lbs and she has lost 86lbs. I have not had any issues nor has she. We r both very happy with our choice. We just got back from the beach and last year we had trouble just walking on the beach, [out of breath, breathing heavy, red in the face]. This year we not only walked without giving out but played volleyball. Last year people were playing volleyball on the beach and I said " how in the world do they do that, I can barely walk on it." lol and this year I DID IT!!!

I got my Realize band 12/2010. I have lost about 80 pounds and I am at the goal I set at the beginning. I would like to lose another 10 pounds and I think that is definitely doable. It will take some time at this point but I am patient.

I now have 8.5cc. I am going in 2 weeks for my 18 month check in. I am sure they will agree with me that another fill is not needed. I can eat almost anything. I tend to not eat in the morning as it is a little tight but I have adjusted well to that.

I really only have issues now when I eat too fast. It sometimes happens when I am rushing to get super ready for the family and I sit to eat without getting my head out of rush mode.

When I said I can eat almost anything it is true but I am rarely hungry and I only eat small amounts as that is all that is needed to satisfy me. I went out to eat twice this weekend with my 8 year old daughter. We got one meal, ate everything we wanted and came home with almost half of the plate. It is amazing how much food we are "expected" to eat by society.

Anyway, I am VERY happy with the realize band.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
