What Do You Do When You're Waiting For A Fill?

Recommended Posts

I would love to hear from people who've done this for a while. If you know you need a fill, and you're able to eat too much, what techniques do you use? Do you stick to liquids until your fill? Try to white-knuckle it and just diet? Go a little crazy and don't feel bad about it?

I'm getting my first fill on Thursday and for the last 2 days I suddenly able to eat again! Like a most of a plate almost if I let myself. I've been trying to go easy on myself, and trying to just be cool for a bit, but I would love some experience to draw on, how do I even think about this...

I am going through the same thing.. I was banded on April 17 and I don't get my first fill till June 6. It seems to get tougher and tougher everyday. Especially when everyone who knows I have had it done think I am going to just miraculously lose a ton of weight, they don't realize I am actually doing this myself till I start getting fills. I wish they gave fills right away.

I always just white knuckle it. If I know I'm going to be hungry in 2-3 hours, I plan accordingly for it. For instance, I keep low fat wheat thins, light babybel cheese, low fat cottage cheese, and sugar free pudding in the house. If I knew I was going to be hungry after dinner, I'd be sure to budget a snack into my calories for the day. I know we're not supposed to be snacking, but I figured I was better off budgeting in a snack than trying to get through without it- and ending up eating something anyway.

It's not easy, in fact it's why people refer to that time before you have good restriction as "bandster hell".

I bought a food scale and measured out low fat solid Protein to 3 oz. And ate low fat/Cal veggies to full.

Thanks!! The veggies thing is a great idea... I'll try to focus on salads and raw veggies which I miss when tighter...

I like to steam cauliflower til tender, mash up w a LITTLE of some sort of butter or butter flavoring, garlic salt. Drain it very well and mash like creamed potatoes. Some of my friends did not believe it when I told them what it was. You'll think u just ate a baked potato!!!! :)

For two days, I think you will be fine. But sometimes you have to wait longer for a fill appointment and then it really is up to you to manage. After all, that is what the band is trying to teach us -new, healthy eating habits.

It's not easy having to suck it up for a few days or weeks, and, if you are anything like me and most of the rest of the world, you will make some mistakes along the way. But in the end, it is the big picture that matters.

Good luck

I agree very tasty! That's how I got my kids to eat cauliflower- you can even dress it up like a baked potato using plain ff Greek yogurt as sour cream and lf cheese.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
