Okay, it may feel like overkill because that is a LOT to do, but it sounds like the doctor is just being very thorough. I've worked in outpatient surgery for about 5 years and can try to help as best I can.

Upper GI with & with out barium - are you having any type of swallowing or stomach issues? Acid reflux? Abdominal pain? This just maps out the anatomy of your stomach and your swallowing.

sleep test - normal screening test for anyone with obesity. To screen for sleep Apnea, which can be deadly during anesthesia.

ECG - rapid heart rate. They want to make sure your heart is in the correct rhythm.

Stress test - high cholesterol and rapid heart beat. They want to make sure your heart is in good enough condition to handle the stress of surgery.

Chest xrays 2 views - normal for rapid heart rate. To check for any abnormality of the heart and lungs.

OB-GYN pap smear, colonoscopy, mammogram - "normal" routine screening tests everyone should have at some point. Most likely, just ensuring that your body is healthy enough to 1) withstand surgery/anesthesia, and 2) you aren't going to get all geared up, get through surgery and find out a few months later you have colon/cervical/breast cancer.

Hope that helps!

Besides the colonscopy, because I am only 38, I did all of these tests and a nuclear stress test in preparation for my surgery 8/1.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
