How Soon Can I Go To The Gym?

Hi everyone. I'm on day 10 post op and feeling pretty good. I won't have a fill for another 4 weeks or so. When can you start exercising after the surgery? I've already been doing some walking but would like to go back to the gym and get on the bike. Just a little nervous about hurting anything inside. I don't see my doctor for another two weeks and I wasn't sure if I had to wait. Thanks for the input.

I was walking all the time. But, couldn't do any weight lifting or bending type exercise for 6 weeks. You can probably work on the bikes, but not overdo as most people want to. Take things slowly,as you are healing. Call your surgoen's ofc for best advise!!!Karen

I am on 12 day post op and only walking still. I have been walking since the day of surgery, well the first few days were more shuffling but now I am up to two 30 minutes walks a day. I see my doc on Friday and my first fill appt. is June 1st. I am going to check with my doctor to see what he has to say. I have a bowflex machine in the garage that I am itching to get working out on.

my doc told me one week post op i could return. but no weigh lifting till 4 weeks post op and no ab work till 6 weeks

I want back and did treadmill starting day 4, and did that for 7 days, 3 days on the elliptical and then back to lap swimming at day 15 postop. I had been swimming before surgery so it was'nt a shock to my system.

I was told I could walk and do the stairstepper as soon as i feel comfortable but no core exercises, running, swimming, abs and such for 6 weeks.Im ready to start exercising too. Ive lost 4.5 pounds and im on day 6 post op

Give your doc's office a call if it isn't in your post-op instructions. Every doctor has different post-op instructions.

I would think the receptionist could answer that question, the surgeon is probably pretty consistent throughout his practice.

i am also getting anxious to exercise. i have been up walking around in the house & yesterday went out with the hubby for some shopping. i can't wait to get on an elliptical. post op day 6 and i am down 9 lb.
