Going Through Some Depression And Regret

Recommended Posts

I was banded three days ago. I was a self pay cause my insurance would not pay. I sold my work stock to pay some down. I am just thinking I could have spent that money somewhere else. This is a forever thing. Maybe I jumped into it too soon.

I have 4 young boys that need me. They need a healthy mommy to be there for them. I did this before I got diabetes or high blood pressure.

Just thinking out loud

I think you made the right choice. I was banded 3 weeks ago and I have a small child as well. We want to be there for them and lead by example. You made a great investment, you'll realize it as the weight comes off. I've lost 25lbs so far and it's made a big difference. I think the hardest part is I haven't been able to pick up my son! Be encouraged each day will get easier. God bless -

the surgery has made a physical change to our stomach, we need to make the changes to our heads. stinking thinking, we all have it ....when these thoughts start to bubble up, get up, walk outside, take some deep breathes and realize, our thinking has put us in some lousy places in the past, just put the breaks on them... start exercising the brain to not allow these sabatoging messages in. it takes time.

Yes your children do need you. And that's why you got the band...to make sure they their mama will be around and healthy for a very long time. When my 4 year old asked why I was getting this surgery I told her so that I can chase down het future boyfriends ;-)

Three days out is a hard time. You are still hurting and tired of Clear liquids. It just gets better from here! At 39 I had a stroke. 39! I was working out 5 days a week and trying to eat better. I had lost about 30 pounds. Did not prevent me from being in ICU for a week.

I wish I had done lap band years ago. It may have prevented the stroke. It will get better. As you loose weight it will help you stay motivated.

One year in and 75 lbs. Lipton c/noodle in the dehydrated pkg make the Soup and skip noodles. It's not clear but worked great. Good 30 g protien shake at market cooler in veggie isle costs same as just the burger but more flavor protien and v&m plus keeps u satisfied 2-3 hours if drank moderately. 50 lbs to go thanks for support!

I agree with a couple posts above, right now, you are three days out, I too was thinking what on earth did I do!!..I was in pain, and wondering where else I could have spent my money but truth is, I have spent this money and maybe twice that, on diet fads that did not work for me..I am not 4.5 weeks out and now,I feel great..lost some weight, feeling good, more energy and just on a good path. It is still going to take work, but once you get to enjoying life you will be good..heads up!!! Thinking of you!!

You made a good decision 1) for yourself and your health 2) for your children. Please try not to be depressed over a decision that was made regarding your health.

Some people after surgery do feel a bit depressed, but think about the long term. I think it will go away as you see what a great tool this can be for you. As you said, you have 4 kids who need you around. Right now and the next few weeks will be the worst, as you heal and then you don't have any restriction & wait for your first fill. But as you keep working you will see your weight go down and realize it's worth it!

The first few days out of surgery are rough. You are mourning food right now. Hang in there. It will get better.

I was self pay also. I still sometimes wonder if I would have been better off putting that money towards an adoption because we are struggling right now to finance one. But I am healthier than I was, and I am back on the road to losing.

Hang in there!! The road will be bumpy for awhile.

Hang in there!! I am 4 days post op and it is getting better everyday! My son (7yrs old) asked me today if I was ever going to get off the couch again?? He had tears in his eyes.......I realized then, that a few days on a couch in pain is so worth the years ahead where I will be running and playing with both my kids.

I just dont think that we really realized that it would be this painful, as it is an out-patient procedure and Lapriscopic on top of it. It will be worth it in the end!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
