Hi :)

I see you are at 7.75cc total. Given that, I would say that you should not be eating much of anything LOL. I've been banded for 6 years, so I guess I am kind of an old foggie stogie now in LapBand Land. I do not worry about carbs, fats, calories, all that "dieter stuff". I just don't. I eat my Protein first and then vegetables or fruit. Protein is most important because it helps keep and build muscle and without that, you cannot burn fat. I eat a piece of raisin cinnamon toast and an egg or a Nestle instant Breakfast drink in the morning and I take my chewable Vitamins X 2 that I get at costco (the Kirkland brand). For lunch, which is a meal I usually have trouble getting down, I may have a little of a leftover from the night before or a salad. For dinner, I try to eat whatever everyone else is eating and the meat goes down first. I like to drink V-8 or fusion drinks to make sure I get my fruits and veggies. 64 ounces of liquid per day is about what I do.

If I spent all of my time counting everything that went into my mouth, it would pull me back into that success/failure rollercoaster that I was on before I was banded. The rules have changed since I was banded in 2006, but one thing has not~~I cannot eat enough of anything to hurt me when my band is tightened, so why waste your life counting everything.

I have lost over 100 pounds, had a child, gotten rid of my Type 2 Diabetes and all this has happened since I was banded. My band and I are quite close. My recommendation to you would be to just relax and let the band do it's job, which is, to stop you from overeating. Your job is to take your Vitamins, eat your protein and fruits and veggies any way you can tolerate them~~~juice, fresh, whatever. RELAX and it will happen!!!

Sorry, I forgot to tell you that I used to ask the questions you are asking. I was never able to get amounts from any of the three doctors I have asked. Not even the nutritionists can tell you. I told them, I have a stomach pouch the size of an egg, how much of that egg should be filled with the each different food group, per meal. One mouthful or teaspoon, two mouthfulls ect. No answer, all they could answer me with was what an unbanded person should be eating. Well, that was just so much stupid that I quit asking. My son has about the same size pouch I do and the rule for a young child is about 1 teaspoon of each at every meal. However, a lapband nutritionist will not put themselves out there to give that kind of detail. If you are a lapband doctor's nutritionist, shouldn't your recommendations be geared towards the banded? LOL, I mean REALLY. IF you find out, let me know.

the pouch should hold two to four onces depending on how long you have had it. Our nutritionist told us that after a year you should be able to eat a small (michellinas example) and that is all. I dont do well with meat most days so I supplement with Protein Shakes and eat lots of fruit and vegetables. I guess I have become mostly vegetarian because meat does not like my band or my stomach anymore.

I was told to eat between 700 - 900 calories per day and eat between 1/4 to 1 cup per meal.. I've now have had two different dieticians tell me different things about the 1/4 cup servings per meal thing, so I now have decided since I keep losing on the 1/2 cup per meal I'm going to stick with 1/2cup. I count my calories everyday, my Proteins ( told to have around 60 grams Protein, but I eat around 85 ), and my Fluid intake ( told to have no less then 64oz, but I have around 110 oz or more ). I don't count carbs, because I don't eat any carbs other then those in veggies.. I was told to stay away from bread, Pasta, rice, and sugars and I have done so.. My dietician said not to worry to much about fats, because I'm eating good fats and stick with low fat proteins and veggies... I eat eggs ( only 1 egg a day if and when I eat it ) low fat or 2% cheese, chicken and fish for my protein. I don't eat red meat..

I was told to eat 3 ounces Protein and 1/2 c veggies/fruit per meal. One year out and I still measure and weigh everything out. It's what works for me. If I didn't, I could eat more than that. I stayed around 1000 calories a day for the first year, now it's work to stay at 1300 a day. I am hoping a fill on Thursday will help.

See, here's my deal. Dolly says she was told to eat 3oz of Protein PLUS a half cup of veggies/fruit PER MEAL. At over 7cc filled on a 10 or 11 size band, our stomachs cannot hold that much. No way!!! Also, as a former professional dieter, the 3oz protein rule is for the unbanded person. I just don't understand how these nutritionists and doctors can tell people that. The truth is that no specifics have ever been set up for the banded patient. It's wrong, but we are kind of left to find our own way. I make sure I have bloodwork done every quarter to check my nutrition levels. That is the only way to tell what your body needs more of and also the best way. I have been low on protein at times and low on Potassium and others. I have to add supplements and find creative ways to get my body what it needs. It really is a personal journey. Just you, your body and your band. I eat real food. I dont eat diet foods, low fat, this or that. I don't eat frozen meals or processed food. If a food has more than five ingredients or has ingredients I cannot pronounce, I don't eat it. I EAT REAL BUTTER!! LOL. My body gets such little food that I can't be bothered with putting the laboratory created food in it. The body was not intended to deal with laboratory foods. It really doesn't know what to do with them so it storesMy band tells me when I have had enough and I leave it at that. Everything I do probably flys in the face of what most are doing and recommending. It's your jouney and you have to work out alot of the details with the help of your band and bloodwork.

My surgeon tells me 1c in total 3 times a day. 60-80g of Protein, 84oz of Water, protein first, then veggies. I'm not told how many calories or what the macro nutrients should be.

My 3 ounces of protein and 1/2 veggies is about 1 cup of food. Sure, your pouch could not hold that all at once, but when you wait 30-60 seconds in between bites it leaves the pouch and then enters a much larger stomach. As for my Breakfast, I don't weigh my protein. I either have a yogurt with Kashi Cereal or 1 whole egg and 1 egg white with 1/2 oz. cheese. And honestly, if my portions weren't measured out, I could eat more. Though doctors will vary on what they tell you, Lapband has their dietary guideline on their website. http://www.lapband.c...ary_guidelines/

I have 6.85 in my 10 band.

Today I saw the Dietican and I was actually told that I am not eating enough, I am eating about 1100 calories a day. I am getting about 80-90 grams of protien and she want my calories up to 1500 and my protien to 110 grams. I also exercise 6 days a week so it is also helping me

Depends upon where you are at with restriction.....because I have not concerned myself about calories or portion sizes for almost a year.

As someone else said before, my pouch can handle just so much. If you listen to your band, then you stop long before you over do it.

And, since my portion sizes are so small, I choose good foods to eat so I know my calories are Ok also.

Only thing I count is my Protein and Water intake. But even Protein, I have a routine that first thing in the morning I get 40-45 gm in at one shot before leaving the house for work.

So getting the balance for the day is not a challenge.

as far as NOT getting enough calories in per day, as many people seem to be concerned about, I probably don't but it has not affected me at all, and I go to the gym every day and have plenty of energy.

I forgot to ask,

when referring to ounces,

are we talking liquid ounces

volume ounces or weight ounces?

Lots of great advice here!

Got a run around answer from a nurse today

she basically said to try and stick to the diet i got when i was discharged.

No one mentioned that to me before hand!

Tanya

Watch these you tube videos from one of the founding doctors in lap band design. There are sevral videos in his series. You will get a lot of answers from him. You will also understand exactly how the band works. Helped me a lot.

This link is only part one you will find the rest of them from there.

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
