We're any of you allowed Protein Shakes the day after surgery?

No. Clear Liquids for 7 days, then start Protein shakes. If you start them too soon you could get diarrhea.

Oh ok. I was wondering because I heard how important the Protein shakes are for the healing. I just worried that it may be too early for them.

Thanks :)

Sounds like you're doing great! :) Cheating isn't worth it and could put you in danger for the surgery.

I am pretty anxious to progress to solid foods after 20 days straight of liquids, but theres no way am I gonna screw this up by trying to progress too soon.

Mdfinch! You were banded 2 days before me! Maybe you can answer sone questions i have!?

Do you have a Vitamin for Iron yet? I have a chewable multi vitamin but it doesn't have iron in it and I think it's supposed to right?

Also, my stomach is hurting still most of the day, I'm not sure If it's from sitting at a desk, what im eating or that I'm full?? I have not really figured it out yet have u?

I am on mushy foods now but I find myself leaning towards Pasta because I don't know what to eat! And that seems to go down easy! But I know I shouldn't a). Be eating pasta B). Pasta is not really a mushy :/

What are u eating these days? I meet with the nutritionist thurs so I hope she can help maybe?

I would love anyone's advice! Thanks May team! Glad everyone is doing so good! :)

I'm sorry andi525 But My stomach has not been hurting me. Now I have had some issues with heart burn and now I have to take malanta for the the rest of this week and see if it gets any better and if not I have to get some test done next week to see why. After and during your surgery do you know if the ran any test on you. Like during my surgery they injected blue saline solution to make sure the port and lap band had no leaks. and after surgery I had to drink barium to make sure my stomach looked ok and the placement of the band was good.

Andi525 Please leave those patas alone. Way to much for this time. You are to eat mushie foods such as mashed potatoes vegetable and meats. Here is what was recommended by my dietcian.

breakfast- 2oz of cream o wheat or oatmeal

lunch 2oz meat, 2 oz mash potatoes and 2 oz of vegetables

supper same as lunch

Almost forgot about the vitiams. Now I was not told any thing about iron. So I take Centrum chewables which is just a Multivitamin and I also take Calcium . This is all that was told to me by my Dietcian. I just went and got my book out and doubled checked and I am taking every thing that I was told. Call your Dietican and ask them. You pay them good money so get your moneys worth. My dieticain tells me to call her any time I think I have a question.

Let me know if I can help with any thing else. I do believe you should call your doctors office and tell them that your stomach is hurting and see if they can help you. let me know what you find out.

I actually had the opposite problem. On the pre-op diet, I had very painful constipation, to the point where it was painful to sit down because of the pressure, and when I strained there was blood. I am really scared off the Protein Shakes after that experience. I know it's gross.. LOL. Post-op, everything has been looser, thank goodness. Are you able to take stool softener and up your Water intake? That helped me after a few days when I had that issue

Thank you for the advice mdfinch! I See my dietician tomorrow morning so I will talk to her more about mushies. I'm not sure how much longer I have to stay on mushies either? I thought meat would get stick this early so I have not tried it. They didn't do any tests that I know of during surgery, but my dr talks so fast when I see him that I forget to ask these questions! I need to write them down before hand lol thanks again, I'm sure I will learn lots tomorrow, I need a refresher! And thanks for holding me accountable! No more Pasta, your right! (it just seemed softer than most foods?) lol

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
