Recommended Posts

Hi all - which app is the best? I am NOT a runner (or exerciser) so I'm starting from scratch. Thanks!

I have been doing the couch to 5k for about 3 1/2 weeks. I can't say I love it because that would be saying I love exericise and I don't think that will ever happen. However I do thik it is a great program. What I like is you can stay on the "week" until you are ready to move on. I had to repeat one and I am repeating week 2. However there is a 5k in my town in september and I WILL be running in that! Good luck to you!

Thank you thank you for this thread. I used to do Couch to 5k with the podcast religiously. Then I fell off the wagon after complications with the band. I was looking into getting started again but I really was soooo tired of the podcast music.

I checked out "Ease into 5K" and I LOVE it!! I am so happy I get to listen to my own music!! I am inspired all over again.

I recently completed the C25K and the app I used was "Get Running.". It keeps track of all your runs, tells you when to run and when to walk etc., and (at least I know on iPhone) you can listen to Pandora, iPod, etc while the app is running.. It will just lower the volume a little and tell you "one min left" or whatever else it tells you. It's great-- I highly recommend Get Running!

I have the iphone 4... I love the Jog Log app. It has a couch 2 5k program built into it (haven't used it yet). I use this app for all of my walks. It does the time, distance, average speed, mile/min... among other things. You can program your height, weight, age for a calorie burn estimate (I usually wear a polar ft4 HRM). Oh.. and I think the app was free B)

I do. And I love it. Makes it much easier to check in frequently. Although I can't seem to get my push notifications to work properly.

Push notifications aren't the greatest at the moment. We're working on this and hope to have a fix for it shortly.

Wow! Cool to see so many people doing this. I downloaded it last night and plan on starting tomorrow. Though I may take the advice and walk the first week for 30 minutes before I officially begin week one, since I've done no exercising in a couple years. :/ The app suggested to me was "Get Running" and it seems cool. I've gone on the forum and read some info. I even tried it out and set up a play list to run with it. Good luck!

I have been using the elliptical for over 2 years, using a MP3 program called "Cardio Coach"

I just downloaded Couch to 5K from I-tunes onto my I-touch. Logged in 2 workouts, but had to stop. I do not have good running shoes, so I bought good pair of Saucony's online from Zappo's. should get here tomorrow so I can start all over again.

I did not stop the Elliptical. I start my workout with 30 minutes of level 3 to 4 on the elliptical instead of 60, as a good warm-up.

Then I go through all the weight stations.

I will then finish my workout with the 30 minutes of Couch to 5K on the treadmill.

I should add I am 60 years old, and although I participated in High School sports, did 2 tours in Vietnam, I have not run in over 35 years!

So now that I have put the weight off, I have no excuses. I am really excited to complete this program and be able to run a few miles everyday, wherever I am, like normal people do.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
