Need Encouragement From People That Understand

Recommended Posts

Today is my one year anniversary for being banded. Today being Wed is also my weekly weigh in day. I have been closely watching what I eat, and exercising, but the weight is just not coming off. I seem to fluctuate between 177 and 182.. it is so frustrating. My main goal was to be down 100 pounds by my anniversary date which would put me at 150. I have worked hard to try to accomplish that, but as I told my husband (who is completely supportive, yet I think he gets tired of it hearing it) That I am stuck in 180 hell because I have been in the 180 range since October. I know I have come a long way, unfortunately I am a person that wants things NOW, lol I am not very patient. So if anyone has any words of encouragement, that might help me through todays depressed state of mind, it would definately be appreciated.

I don't have any words of encouragement because you are so far ahead of me, but just remember the amazing work you have done! You will get to where you want to be, maybe not on the timeline you had hoped, but in time :D

Keep your chin up!

You've done a great job so far! Keep it up. Remind yourself how you got this far. Read some old journals, posts, blogs and go over your food diaries from weeks where you had a good loss. Make sure you are getting enough Water and and increase your protein...?? That worked for me on this last plateau that I hit. I'm nowhere near where you are but am looking forward to getting there. My goal is a year as well! Congrats and blessings!

You are doing great! I'm 1.5 years out and only nearing 40lbs. I had thought by now I would be at my goal (which is about 80 lbs down). So....I get frustrated, but then I think I would probably weigh more than what I started at if I had not had this surgery. Maybe you need a small fill or to change up your exercise routine? Good luck!

Ok, let's take a huge step back and look at how far you've come this year. 73 lbs? SEVENTY THREE POUNDS!!!?!?!?

Amazing! Stunning! Spectacular!!

You should be so incredibly proud of yourself and use this, your one year bandiversary, to remember all the lessons from day one. Go through the checklist and gently correct areas where you may have stepped off the path. Are you drinking with meals? Drinking too many calories? How are your carbs doing? Do you need to drop them a skosh to get the weight moving again? Or up Protein? Do you need to add a day of exercise? Or are you exercising too hard and need to ease back a day?

With just a little fine tuning (for me, it was always fine tuning my carb count) you'll get it going again.

But first: Take time to Celebrate this anniversary and your incredible success. You've earned every pound!! Congrats!

As I got close tommy goal, I plateaued for 2-3 months, losing and gaining the same 3-5 lbs.

When I went to my Dr, we both agreed I was dong fine in the green zone. Appetite under control, portion sizes, etc. we both agreed I was fine, and there was no reason for an additional fill. But I was plateaued.

So, just as a experiment, he said he would give me a 1/2cc fill. Just to see. I could come right back if it was too much. We boh agreed it was just a " see what happens"

Well that was all it took to give me that kick, and the weight began to fall off again.

I go back to see him I May, and I may ask to get that 1/2cc removed.

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement! It really did help get me over my hump for today. I tend to get this way when its weigh in day and the scale did not move my way. It really has been a great year and I am proud of how far I have come. I really am to hard on myself a lot of the time, sometimes that is good and sometimes that is bad, in todays case, it was bad. I put together a new before and after photo and boy did that ever list my spirits! :) Thank you again and much love to you all!

Don't forget as you lose weight your stomach gets smaller too so if the band is not restricting it isn't working! Great job on the 73 though! Go look at your before picture to help you remember your journey and appreciate your accomplishment!

Nikki - I too am at a plateau. I didn't reach my one year goal and now I'd be happy if I could lose 40 more lbs this year. I hadn't been on the site for quite awhile and needed support also. Feel free to message me.

Think of how far you've come, what you have already accomplished. You don't want to stop now, do you? If you spend time in the gym change it up a bit don't do the exact exercises, do something completely off your norm and see if it helps. I wish you the best and remember...you CAN do this!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
