What Exactly Is Restriction?

Recommended Posts

I hear a lot of talk about restriction,..... Can someone please explain to me exactly what it is? Does it refer to being restricted from eating certain foods? Or does it refer to the actual amount of food one can eat?

I hadn't heard it used about restricted food until last night. I was searching around the internet last night and found a Dr that said it isn't about the tightness of the band but about the restricted food.

I guess it is used both ways.

It is a terrible term and it should be outlawed.

What it means is that you can eat a smaller portion of food than previously and that should satisfy you for a number of hours afterwards.

It does not mean that you will stop wanting chocolate and suddenly start craving lettuce.

It does not mean that you will eat 3 spoons and not be hungry again until your next meal.

It does not mean that you won't ever have head hunger again.

What you should be aiming for is to eat the recommended portion of the type of foods that you have been told to eat by your Dr. You need to eat slowly, chew well and wait between bites. You need to be aware of your body signalling that it has had enough and these signals can be different for everyone.

Some may hiccup, sneeze, have a pain in their shoulder..................

Some people find that they are no longer able to eat certain foods but this is not the aim. In fact the more restricted you are the harder it becomes to eat healthy foods and the easier it is to eat soft/slider foods.

If you are hungry a couple of hours later then eat a small healthy snack. Most bandsters are not able to eat 3 small meals a day with no Snacks even if that is what a lot of us were initially led to believe would happen.

Elcee, your responds are always very detailed.... Thank you for that. After how many fills would you say you felt the famous "restriction"?

Each and every fill makes a little difference. I do not believe that there is one that will bring you to some perfect level. You need to recognise what each fill is doing for you and don't get hung up on some notional "sweet spot'.

You have a fill, you eat less and you feel fine for a couple of weeks and then you realise that you are getting hungry sooner or eating more than previously, that is when you know it is time to go back.

Hi

I had a defill last thursday of 1/2 ml and it is so good I haven't eaten any slider foods and not thrown up in a week. Weighed in this morning and no weight loss maybe next week.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
