Fill Yesterday And Starving Today!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had my band placed in 2007 so its been a while :-). I had a complete unfill last June because I was pregnant and having a lot of trouble with it and lost 14lbs in the beginning of my pregnancy. My total weight loss since 2007 is 35lbs. (not good at all)... I think I may have been too tight before because I was not able to eat anything. (no veggies or meat) I was very very bad and lived on things that would easily go through the band.

I FINALLY had a fill yesterday of 4ccs. (I had 5ccs when I had the unfill.) I am ready to do this right this time. It has been so long since I started this journey and I have forgotten how everything feels.

I met with the dietician yesterday and she told me that I should be full for at least 4 hours after a meal. I was on full liquids for 24 hours and then test the waters with what I could eat today. This morning I was still on liquids so I had a Protein shake, yogurt smoothie, Water, and some coffee. I had about 4oz of tuna with a little mayo at 3:00PM and by 5:30 I was starving! I am so afraid of getting stuck or eating too much!

Do I need to give it time to tighten up more? or does it already sound like I need another fill?

Thanks!

Leslie

I have 5cc in a 10cc and have little to no restriction. I've had my band long enough to know that sometimes it's takes a while to get to the point where you have enough fill in to keep you satisfied for up to 4 hours and I'm definitely not there yet.

I had my last fill a week ago and I'm going back this Friday. And I will go back every two weeks (if I can get an appt) until I achieve some restriction again.

I was at 6.75 until my fill today of .1. I have never gone 4 hours without being hungry! This morning I ate Breakfast at 7:15, in the doctor's office by 9:15 am and my stomach was growling loudly! I had to negotiate for the .1 fill because she says I have more than what people normally have. I go for an upper GI Monday and will see what the band looks like at that point before she will give me any more fills.

I would give it atleast a week or 2 before going back in though.

Fish goes thru the band very easily, so it will not stay in the upper pouch long. If I really want a full feeling, I have to eat beef, I cut it up super small and chew like mad, but it stays with me longer than anything else.

I would love to know exactly what you did to lose all your weight! I am 235 now and my goal is 140!

I have been very faithful to journaling and keeping my calories to 1000 a day. I aim for 60 grams of Protein each day and weigh and measure most everything I eat. Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect. I go over the calories on some days, eat some sweets that I know that I shouldn't but I am happy with results.

Lellow, I saw a few weeks ago that you posted about some possible complications --a leak? What came of that, are you doing okay?

Lellow, I saw a few weeks ago that you posted about some possible complications --a leak? What came of that, are you doing okay?

I got my port and tubing replaced last Saturday and now, hopefully, the leak is a thing of the past! I was losing about 1cc a week from that leak, but the last time my dr checked all the Fluid he put in at surgery was still there.

He put 4cc in my band at surgery and another 1cc a few days after, but I'm still miles away from being anywhere near restricted enough. So I'm in bandster hell all over again. I'm working not to gain but damn it's hard work!

I finally got a fill yesterday , my first one in over 3 years. he put in .6 and I am tight, actually I have never had this tight feeling in my 4.4 yrs of being banded. I am drinking hot tea, and some warm broth today. I am hoping it is just swelling with not havng a fill in so long and will fell better soon, if not I will be calling Dr for a slight unfill of what he put in yesterday.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
