Its empty calories, carbonated drinks can stretch out the upper pouch if you have them often. Real talk... I tossed back a whole bottle of wine two weeks post op and have had no problems. That's just how I roll.

I drink a lot (lol). The main thing I find is alcohol has somewhat of a "loosening" effect, meaning my restriction seems much less if I have a couple. However, I often will when I'm out so I don't get stuck (ug, getting stuck in public really sucks)....and it sometimes loosens my inhibitions about eating slides. Aside from those side effects, I still love my wine!

gotta still have a little vice, don't we? I have been wondering about this too. It is the first thing on my list to talk to my surgeon about before I plan my surgery.

im pleased to read that its not impossible to have a few... providing its done with common sense, that is. However, i dont think i will be having any more red wine. it has been giving me problems with my hernia, or what i asume is a hernia. it could also be some gastritis.. not sure.. but red wine does it to me, as much as i enjoy a glass of red.

Yeah you can drink. I will admit that I got massively drunk two months ago off of two and a half drinks. Remember that you can't eat as much so you can't really get that full meal that helps with the effects from booze. Then again I was a heavyweight lightweight drinker before the lapband and two would have me buzzed. But I have never been that drunk before. And they weren't very strong either.

This has always been my question because I love my cocktails on weekends, but now I have to think about sipping instead of drinking which is very hard to get used too. I now also drink ice Water in between my cocktails because the effects are so powerful on an almost empty stomach. Think before you drink and sip instead of sucking down. We have to crawl before we can walk. Slow and steady wins the race..

I get tipsy off the sample wine at the Olive Garden, hahahaha. I was a bad drinker before getting my band, haven't drank since (cept for 2 times at the OG). It kicked my rear though.

I still have cocktails and a beer now and then, but I haven't had a fill yet. something tells me after a fill, I may not be drinking beer at all, carbonation hurts like heck when the gases build up in your tummy! Take it easy, I had to learn the hard way after a night of wine drinking at a friends wedding. Lets just say I was glad I was home when I started to get sick. I am sure my surgeon would have been so mad, she would have made me give my band back after all the dry heaving I did! WOW! I was so mad at myself for making such a huge mistake.

Moral of the story, moderation, Water, and don't drink till you puke! No Bueano! I couldn't eat solid food for 24 hours, I thought I had made the band slip with all that trauma I put it thru. Woke up Monday and could eat again, thankfully!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
