Day 1 Surgery And Wondering What I've Done To Myself

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery today at 8am. I am completely sore and have no energy. I've been sipping my 1 ounce of Water, every hour and that appears to be fine. However I am urinating every 20 minutes. Is this the IV flowing through me? I think I am sore because I keep getting up and walking to the bathroom. My stomach hurts and I can't tell if it's hunger pains or if it's the result of surgery.

My mouth is unbelievably dry. What in the world have I done??

My insissions are Much larger than I expected.

I opted out of pain killers because I have a weak stomach. I can't take pain killers on an empty stomach. It'll make me vomit and votmiting is not part ofbthe plan. Did anyone have these issues.?

Having a complete melt down. And want to feel better

You will be ok, just hang in there. You should expect to have some discomfort. You just had alot of IV Fluid pumped into you and your drinking throughout the day, you will urinate alot. Plus, honestly, if you aren't taking in alot of sodium, you have some "water weight" that will come off. The dryness in your mouth is left over from meds they give you to decrease your saliva during the sedation. You aren't going to feel great for a little while, but one day you will wake up and it will be so much better.

I think we have all gone through that "morning after" period. Please just believe all of us when we tell you it will get better, but it is going to take some time. Your stomach is going to be sore... like killer sore muscles. Time will fix it. As for the dry mouth, that is from the anesthesia.. chapstick is your friend. You were probably prescribed something for nausea, be sure to take it and you can always take childrens liquid Tylenol for pain. I am 2 weeks put today and feeling better everyday! You'll get there, keep your eye on the prize! We are ALL in your corner!

I had all of the same issues that you had, trust me. It will get better every day, trust me. Just hang in there and you will be okay. I can't believe there is not a pain killer that they can give you that you can take on an empty stomach because that is how most of us are when we come home, right? We have empty stomachs? Can you discuss this with your doctor? The pain killers is what kept me sane...I took it every four hours religiously. You will do fine...just have faith that you did the right thing for you!

It will get better. I had my surgery on 3-1-12 and I felt really bad afterwards, but I feel much better now a few days later. You will feel better tomorrow. You will prob really need those meds though. You might want to reconsider that. I have a weak stomach too but I've been fine with taking the meds on an empty stomach. Good luck!

I too did not take any type of pain pills, had to go with otc pain medicine. You might be up going to the bathroom alot, but you need to get up every hr to keep those lungs clear and start feeling better. It helps to get the medicine out of your system by walking. I walked around my backyard everyday for a week for at least 10 mins every hour.

When I went in for surgery I totally did not want the surgery so days afterwards the feelings were still the same. Now 2 months later, its a new life but I haven't put back on the 20lbs that I've lost & I choose good healthy meals every day. It will be worth it.

Ask the nurse if you can have pain relief through your iv ??

Dont dispair darling, its gonna be fine. We've all been there and it sucked for all of us ...but we are all so happy now !!! My first night in the hospital post op was a friggin nightmare. The best way to feel better is by getting up and slowly walking around, put your shoulders back & take slow deep breaths. It will be hard for you to walk around if your in pain so please reconsider the pain killers, youll find when you go home you will need them so that you can sleep at night comfortably & bare taking showers etc. Have a warm bean bag handy for any pain you may experience in your left shoulder, this is where the gas sits when it dispurses from your body, keeping moving your arns up & down to help dispurse the gas. Suck on ice cubes for your dry mouth & keep a chapstick handy, just be patient hunny. When your feeling down, phone a friend or someone who is supportive & just talk it out. Cry if you need to & remember why you did thid!!! Hold on... You have made the right choice.

Believe me.

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL TO ANN_MARIE. I WAS BANDED ON 3/1/12 AND WITH A HIATAL HERNIA REPAIR. 5 DAYS POST OP AND I STILL FEEL LIKE I WAS HIT BY A SUBMARINE. IT SEEMS LIKE THE MORE WALKING I DO, THE WORSE THE PAIN IN MY RIB CAGE GETS. IT HURTS SO BAD TO GET UP! I HAVE CRIED MYSELF TO sleep ALMOST EVERY NIGHT. LAST NIGHT WAS THE FIRST TIME IVE BEEN ABLE TO sleep ON MY SIDE SINCE FEB 29TH. ITS GETTTING BETTER. THE 4 INCISIONS FROM THE LP SURGERY DONT HURT,ITS THE 1 INCH INCISION FROM THE HERNIA REPAIR AND ITS LOCATED AT THE TOP OF MY STOMACH. IT HURTS AND ITCHES AT THE SAME TIME! CRAZY!

IT WILL GET BETTER, GIVE IT TIME AND PRETTY SOON WE ARE GONNA BE LOOKIN' MIGHTY SEXY!!!

BANDED 4 LIFE

Day 3 and I am doing much better. The key is to stay ahead of the pain. I went 24 hours after surgery without pain killers and that wasn't wise.

And to be honest, to prevent nausea I ate 2 saltine crackers and then took my pain med. I finally slept all night and feel 80% back to normal.

My incisions hurt when I get up and down but I assume that's suppose to happen for awhile.

Thanks for all the support.

I only took liquid tylenol was okay with that. I would NOT eat crackers at this point. You should probably only be on Clear Liquids. I am not being mean spirited, your stomach is healing right now and should not be churning to digest food.< /p>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
