What Was Your Turning Point?

What was your turning point for finally turning to wls?

Mine was (after 20 years) after I went on a cruise and I kept tninking I would of had a such a better time if I was more comfotable in my body. I wasnt able to do alot if what I wanted to do. I was able to barely do the zipline in Balize, but the guy embarrased me and said in front of everyone that I needed extra harneses because of my weight. I was given an extra large innertube.

Things like that can really affect someone. And the kicker was when I got back and was taking the kuds to school and was cut off by someone and then they called me a Fat Cow.

It was after that I started really looking into doing something. it was finally getting to affect my self esteme to the point that I could not take anymore.

Was there a certain turning point for you?

It was a culmination of many things for me. Realizing last summer how out of shape I was when I did a hike locally that is known for its harshness with my kids. They both did it no problem and it took me over 3 hours instead of the usual 30 mins. My son standing about 20 feet above calling down "you can do it mommy!" and people giggling on the trail.

Planning a trip to mexico in the fall with my kids for a family wedding and the first holiday that I have ever been able to go on with them. I didn't want it to less fun for my kids because I was embarrassed to be seen in public as I am on the beach. Them missing out because of me made me feel awful.

Being frustrated, tired and generally like crap every morning when i woke up. Always tired.

Along the way there have been many things but those two stood out a lot.

Oh, and i am turning 40 this year and named 2012 the "get on with it already" year.

I'd say one of the large factors, was my sister getting engaged. Yes I had been miserable for a long time and yo yo dieting and stuff. But the thought of having to wear a dress, made me even more depressed. There was NO WAY I was going to be caught dead in a dress at 260 (I think that is about where I was), and unfortunately that wasn't my highest of 308, but still. I think it was a couple of months after my sister got engaged I had my first appointment. I had a 6 month supervised diet I had to go through and I lost only 11lbs. Got banded in December and my sisters wedding was in November, I got down to 180 by that date. I was still self conscious, but I felt I looked decent. The other factors were just that I was miserable with my life, I had no life. Luckily I was fat, but I was healthy, no medical problems at all.

When I was diagnosed with diabetes I had an epiphany. Logically I knew it going to happen, but the doctor actually saying "you are diabetic" really threw me. At 39, I could and would deal with it, but my 5 year old son ate the same garbage I was eating. I was afraid I was sentencing him to a lifetime of dealing with this disease. That made me an unfit mother and I can't and won't accept that. Since meeting my doctor last summer, my entire family eats much healthier than we ever have. My son is more active than he was and I am able to keep up with him. 40 lbs to go, but I feel successful already. :)

For me it was seeing Oprah gain her weight back yet again and if she can't do it, who can? My mom died of cancer quite young and was obese, my dad has diabetes and I was plain sick of feeling bad and ashamed and being on every diet under the sun. I was sick of always being the fattest in the room.

The icing on the cake was not being able to tie my shoes comfortably. Also sitting at work in my tight size 22's was really starting to get to me as well!

My turning point was when I was unable to do things with my kids. It has gone on for years and I wish I had done it sooner. I feel like I missed a lot of what I would have done with them. I am glad I finally got to the point where how I was living my life was probably going to literally kill me and when My Grandchildren are born I'd like to be here to meet them! That was the day I realized I wanted to be around longer and enjoy doing more with my kids.

Mine was when my husband, 6ft 1in, ask to wear a brown belt of mine and it fit him. He had his 3rd bandirversary in Feb. Then and there I decided I needed to do something that works. I was at 244, even heavier than when I was pregnant with either of my kiddos.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
