Old-Timers (3+ Years Banded) Recommitting To The Bandster Lifestyle

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone just wanted to check in, I weighed myself today down 1.5 pounds from last week, ugh :( I'm so not interested in food lately, and I think I need to change up what I eat.

Went to the gym Monday and yesterday, going again today and tomorrow. This weekend is going to be tough my friend's birthday party is Friday at a local casino, but I already have my flat diet orange soda and pinnacle whipped cream vodka packed (the club we are going to charges 10 bucks a drink, with tip is 12 bucks, so we are just going to drink in the room, the club is next door). Saturday the dbf wants a bacon dip and shrimp scampi. I'm only going to eat 4 ounces of shrimp. Sunday the same friend who is having the party Friday night is having cake at her house (I'm about to skip that, I need a good excuse though lol), then Monday is my lap band dr appt @ 3pm. I hope she gets a little agressive with the fill. I have a 4cc band, right now there's 2.5 ccs so I'm getting a little worried, but I'm not going to stress it.

Also I need suggestions for a good scale to weigh my body (not my food lol). I'll be honest I use the Wii fit board and this morning I weighed myself 3 times to three different weights (of course I chose the largest weight loss amount duh!). If anyone has a good brand or model let me know. Thanks!

shues, I replied to your other topic on scales. I need a new one too. Today it said I'd gained a kilo. I hate when that happens!

But the good news is I see my lapband dr today. I hope to get an action plan on how we're going to deal with this slip and the leak.

Though, and I'm crazy to get so excited by this, I went out and had indian last night, tandoori chicken, lamb rogan josh and a beef vindaloo with some saffron rice and I actually got a little bit stuck after eating only 1/3 of it. It hurt but damn I was happy to feel my band. I think it's the first time I've really felt it in about 2 months! Then about 20 mins later, I did a couple of big burps and it went down lol.

Silly to be so happy, huh?

Well turns out my band has a significant enough leak to warrant port and/or tube replacement. I've lost 2cc in 3 weeks, only had 5cc left in my band.

I'm scheduled for the replacement on the 3rd. He wasn't too concerned about the slip, he said it was so small it was almost insignificant in the scheme of things.

So hopefully in just over a week, this will be fixed. In the meantime he's put 8cc in so I have some restriction for few days....

That is pretty significant. So presumably this is a full op as he will have to work out where the leak is. if he is replacing the band surely he will fix the slip then anyway?

He's not doing a full replacement, just port and tubing. I did ask him why he's only replacing those things and from what I gather from what he was said, if the actual band was leaking, there would be no Fluid left in it at all. That I had some Fluid left classes me as a slow leak, and that's almost always attributed to a leak in the port or tubing.

But I will say I arrived at his rooms straight from work and I was starving. And when he put the 8cc in my band, I went from starving to not in the slightest bit hungry in the how-ever-many-seconds it took for him to depress the plunger on his syringe. I know this restriction won't last long, but damnit it feels good to have it back!

Will it be an out patient procedure? Good luck with everything too and keep us posted!

Wow, Lellow, re-op sucks, but at least the problem should be solved, yay!

I got massively stuck on sushi last night. Wah. That seaweed paper is horrid to chew. And it was soooooo yummy. Other than that, it was a good week.

Next Wednesday I am attending my surgeon's education seminar with a friend of mine who is interested in WLS. That should be interesting from a post-op perspective.

That confirms for me why I don't eat Sushi. I have never even felt the inclination to try it and it's not the raw fish that puts me off, it's the cold rice and that horrible looking seaweed stuff. Yuck!

I can't wait to get stuck on sushi! I love sushi and I could probably eat it 3x a day! DBF and I went out last Saturday for sushi and I was hoping I would get stuck so all I could eat is sashimi and of course it didn't happen :(

Monday I go in for another fill, I'm hoping this one gets me in the green zone.

If I don't talk to you all, have a great weekend!

Shues, Sushi is hit or miss for me, I never know. Sometimes one bite in and uh oh! Other times I can eat an entire roll. If I go with just the DH it sucks, because he doesn't eat it, so I am up the creek with the whole thing in front of me and it not going down. So, happily it was all cooked, I brought it home and will attempt it tonight for dinner.< /p>

When I'm well restricted, sushi is a definite no no. The rice, the stickiness and everything just doesn't agree with me. But I can eat sashimi. I loooovvvve sashimi!

Thanks Jacqui, I know it'll be resolved soon. Which is better than an erosion, anyway. I just can't believe I went from barely being able to get liquids down yesterday to being able eat 2 pieces of fish and half a plate of Pasta 24 hours later. I only felt the band kick in in probably the last few mouthfuls.

Next Saturday cannot come round fast enough. I wonder though if I will be unfilled and will require a slow refilling process to get back to the green zone. Because if that happens, I swear I'm going to lose it.

I have a question. Is this fully covered on public health or do you have to go private and how much are your out of pocket expenses.

I am asking because I wonder what the cost would be if anything went wrong with my band, especially as I have switched surgeons.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
