That sounds crazy to me, I'm not banded yet but my dietician told me Clear Liquids for at least the first 3 days after surgery. She said she prefers for me to go 4 days but if I'm just too hungry I can go ahead and slowly progress to full on liquids. She said the longer you go on the clear liquid diet the better b/c that's when you will lose the most weight, the quickest but at the same time you can't go a week+ Protein deprived.

I would call him and ask "Are You Sure"????

Generally it is clear liquids for a few days, then onto heavier liquids.

It sounds ludicrous. I was told to start my Protein Drinks as soon as I was able. I don't get where your surgeon is coming from. It makes no logical sense. You need Protein to heal, to regain your strength.

I had my band put in over 2 yrs ago. My doctor was very strict - liquids only for the first 4 weeks, but he included Protein drinks in with the liquids. In fact, I had a Protein Drink the day after my surgery while still in the hospital. I just recently read thru my post op instructions again (for the heck of it!) and I'm so mad at myself! I thought he wrote that I was to be on clear liquids + Protein Drinks for 4 weeks. After a week or so, I was starving so I added cream Soups to the mix. I thought I was cheating the whole time. It read "clear liquids, yogurt, pudding and creamy soups".

I would ask your doctor to verify the info. That seems like a long time to go without any Protein. Altho you can get protein in Isopur (you can get it from GNC online) and it's a clear liquid. You can also get powdered flavorless protein that you can add to any clear liquid if necessary. I drank ONE of the Isopures I bought (a $100 worth) after my surgery. My nurse said they tasted like Jolly Ranchers. They don't. I think they're nasty. But if it's true that s/he wants you on only clear liquids, it's nice to know there's a choice. Good luck. Hope they let you eat creamy stuff too - it's nice to know you haven't cheated when you start starving!

I've seen it before. Do NOT change anything to do with your diet until speaking with your surgeon. Every surgeon is different in aftercare rules.

I was banded in June...1st 2 weeks was clear liquids. Weeks 3 and 4 were liquids (protein shakes and such) and then weeks 5 and 6 were mushies...weeks 7 and 8 were soft foods and then I was allowed "anything" minus bread starting week 9. I survived...I think you will be okay without the Protein for 2 weeks!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
