I just had my band put in .. Is it normal for that port site to be more painful the the rest of the incisions ?

My port incision hurt more than the others and it hurt for longer than the other ones.

It is normally more painful because the port -well mine anyway- is sewen in to your muscle. I notice still almost a year later that I have some tenderness if I do abdominal exercise.

My port grows and shrinks depending on how much fill is in it. At times it feels big and round, right now, I have 3 1/2 cc in it, it is smaller than it was a few months ago. You might, also, feel it more at night while laying down, and I see mine when I am in the swimming pool. It will bulge out then!

My port site felt huge after surgery and the other incisions were bumpy too. My doctor said this was related to swelling and scar tissue after surgery. I can hardly feel the port site now that the swelling/scar tissue has decreased and I am about 7 weeks post surgery. Just give your body time to heal.

Keep in mind that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for your body to heal after surgery.

Hello all. I'm brand spanking new on this forum. I am post op 1 day. I just had my surgery on 12/30/11. I did quite a bit of walking on 12/31 and all of the sudden my port site looks like a baby butt bulge or bump. It's that large. I'm a bit worried because it does bother me mainly from the amount of protrusion on my left side. Literally looks like i'm pregnant with the baby's butt sticking out of my left side just above my belly button. I think I may have shifted something as I was walking. The surgeon did say he put 2 stitches in a hernia during the lap band surgery but this is all the way down on my left where i can feel the port site. It's all red about the size of a baseball and hurts if you bump it. Because of the holidays I can not follow up until Tuesday. Just want to know specifically if anyone had this right after surgery and what you did to alleaviate it or did you have to have it adjusted back to where it was?

Glad I registered on this site....got here because I am 29 days post and my port area feels like it is tugging sometimes. Mainly when I bend a lot which when you think about it makes sense since it is attached to muscle. It just feels 'weird' hard to describe. But I know the 'weird' feeling is real. Don't like it but according to other posts it will go away one day. When it hurts I put myself down and in the bed hoping that will help...listening to my body. Hard to do when your learning to put yourself 1st. If anyone knows of things that will make the port area feel better please share.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
