Sweets bingeing prior to pre-surgery diet

Recommended Posts

Anyone else who did binge-eating and making every bad food choice possible prior to starting (and delaying starting) the pre-op diet? I feel disgusting and actually am getting turned off to the sweets and junk. What predicated the bingeing in recent weeks was my bariatric group telling me I might want to GAIN 10 lbs prior to surgery (to be over 200 lbs)---really crazy. Was this just to increase my medical necessity in the eyes of the insurance company?

I can't speak to the suggestion to gain 10 lbs (am 398 here) but I do know I find myself going up and down.. (consult is Dec 1). Somedays are 'bandy' (eating good food) other days are crazy bad (1/2 gallon of ice cream, a whole pizza, high carbs, etc...). I think this is just normal for me....

I find myself eating tons of sweets (Halloween candy) with the mind-set that I won't be able to do it again. I know this is the wrong way to think but I'm having trouble fighting the demon! I'll be glad when the candy is GONE!

SPEAKING of which....

just got a call from my well meaning dad....he is sending me an article about a lady who "looked at the band surgery and decided she could just lose the weight herself and lost 75 lbs".... how do I....combat this discussion (over and over again with them...sigh)...

anyone else? my folks are amazing, and supportive, etc....

You should just tell him...if you could lose the weight in your own, you would have done it years ago. I have told my mom repeatedly, I want to do this..my mind is made up. Good Luck!

Same boat here. This food addictions SUCKS with my weight gain I get down about it and all I want to do it eat. Vicious Cycle.

I actually started a thread earlier this morning called Pre-Op Blues and this is what I wrote:

So I am having pre-op blues. My weight keeps going up WTF?!?!?!?! My first appointment with the surgeon I was 254 and now I am 257. I am having my second appointment next wednesday (11/16) and I don't want to be heavier. Why can't I get it together? I know its all mental because I know I can do it. Is it that I am eating like its my last meal or that the I will only take it seriously when the doctor finally puts me on the pre-op? What a mental brain fart!!!! ARGHHHH!!!! I just hope that I am not doing this for anything. The Lapband better b*tch slap my a$$ into gear :) Off to change my ticker in the wrong direction.

BTW a good point my best friend made...maybe I needed this weight gain to realize how much I do need the Lapband...talking about seeing the glass half full. :)

Pendulum, Just thank Dad and drop it. You are an adult and dont have to engage in these discussions where you justify your (adult!) choices. The only way you can get into a discussion with anyone about this is to engage in the discussion...dont do it! Just nod and smile and dont actually respond. These types of 'conversations' regardless of good intent are not good for any of us!

Regarding the last supper phenomenon...most of us did it and most of us continue to cheat!I always say there are those of us who cheat and those of us who dont admit that they cheat! My sincerest apologies to anyone reading this who is perfect!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
