here is a link I came across, about transferring addictions http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/crossingtotransferaddictions/ I copied and pasted the group's content below from a website called obesityhelp.com, maybe check it out. One good thing is, at least you are aware you may be giving up one addiction for another, but instead of trying for a self cure, see what resources are out there, you don't have to do this alone. About

Welcome to CROSSING TO TRANSFER ADDICTIONS. This group discusses the issue of transfer addictions (also known as cross addictions) after weight loss surgery. There are millions of people who have undergone gastric bypass who are now dealing with issues of addiction transfer.

For a number of people, giving up overeating leads to adoption of a new compulsion. Addiction transfer occurs when someone is unable or unwilling to rely on one compulsion (for us, it was food) and so switches to a new compulsion (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, internet, porn, etc) due to not having dealt with the underlying issue behind the compulsion.

***Please feel free (and safe) to discuss any and all issues you have regarding Transfer Addiction.

WE WILL SUPPORT EACH OTHER WITHOUT JUDGEMENT!***

Well since I started this, here is my original post:

I am focusing on some of the things that...

Well my PCP wants me to build a list of the 100 things that will be positive after the surgery and weight loss...

- less medicine

- being able to get on the floorto play with the grandkids

- being able to get back up.

- being able to buy pants in every store, not just a few.

Flying and not have to wonder what people are thinking as they pass by hoping the seat next to me isn't the last one

And worrying about seat belt extenders!

steve that is funny, getting on the floor has always been manageable, but the getting up part is the messy one.

how about looking at the scale and not having to bend over to see the number and actually liking the number.

Many of the things mentioned apply to me ... but, I have one that makes me laugh every time:

Since losing weight I frequently have to check my seatbelt -- to make sure that I have it on! Before lapband my seatbelt was a constant bother and uncomfortable while driving. Now, I have to check an recheck that I have it on because I can hardly feel it. Once I look down and see it's in place, I adjust it so that it is snug -- makes me laugh every time.

I've heard it said that one habit is replaced with another. The key is to replace the habit with a good habit. Personally, I tend to shop too much these days ... virtually everything I buy is on sale. My good habit is walking. I love, love, love my early morning walks! I would never have believed it would happen, but it did. I now get up at 5:30 a.m. to go to the park and walk at least 3 miles before I go to work. It soooooo wasn't me to do that before lapband, but I am soooo thankful that it's me now. Find a healthy habit that you enjoy. It can happen!

All the best to everyone on this journey!

~Fran

I was slowly drowning in my bodily fluids. This was the only way out, so,, I jumped at it, because I wanted to live. I was now in the fight for my life. If I died, well, I died trying..

I'm still here (obviously) But the weight took it's tole on my knees, so they are Titanium.

That's O.K. ! Today I walked 2 miles to get home. That's unassisted. So I can do what I want, at my own speed.

I look forward to next summer, in shorts, and possibly a bathing suit and living...

i drive a very small car a saturn that is very low to the ground. when i get out of the car, i have to put my keys, wallet and cell phone in my right hand so i can use my left hand to push myself out of the car. i always wonder what i look like when i get out of this car. i should have someone record this before the surgery so i can see just how i had to overcompensate in life to do the simple things that others take for granted. what i want to be able to do in one year from now is to get out of my small car without having to use any hands, just the stregnth of my own legs.

Can I get a true answer , how do you feel with the lapband, was the weight loss fast or is it dragging?

Geno,

It's different for everyone, but my weightloss has been fast. I lost 100lb in just six months by being almost anal about following the rules. I am happily slowing down now but am still losing steadily. I won't eat crap foods, I exercise almost daily and miss it when I don't. But I think the two most important things have been a strong support system (my dear husband who even gets out of bed early to exercise with me!), and setting goals to work towards. My next goal is to be under 100kg and when I achieve that I will get a lovely new gold watch that I have coveted for years. My major goal is being able to wear whatever I like to my son's wedding next April and beyond that I have a goal to ride in a long distance, multi-day cycling event in November next year.

Good luck.

Tracey

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
