little weight loss (3 weeks post op)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! so i am about 3 weeks post op and i am not having the weight loss i thought i would have. Read alot of post on here saying in one week they lost 9 lbs. Also meet a lady at the hospital who said she lost 30 lbs in one month. I have been following the plan to a T, and so far I have only lost 6 pounds since my surgery date.

Has anybody else had low weight loss? I have my first fill in 3 more weeks, and I am just concerned. Let me know what u all think!

Hello Peacefulband. I was/am concerned about the same thing. I am two weeks post op, lost 16lbs the first week and nothing the second week. I am freeking out wondering if I am doing something wrong. People are assuring me that the first month is NOT about weight loss but is about healing. There are people that will lose a ton of weight the first month and then there are those who will lose very little to nothing. I was told that the real weight starts coming off after the first fill. Hang in there!!!!!

I was looking for a thread about acid reflux but instead I see my "favorite" thread type = the I just had weight loss surgery a week to 3 weeks ago and I haven't lost -25 to 100 pounds yet! Most people don't lose that much weight until at least the first fill or even their 3 or 4th fill. You are suppose to be healing. The diet the doctor gave you isn't to lose weight - the liquid and mushies are for you to build scar tissue around the band. If you would eat now while you're healing you could dislodge the band (correct me if I am wrong).

I had a recent fill and both the nurse and doctor were laughing about people who had unrealistic expectations of weight loss following surgery. The nurse said, "At least get your first fill before you start complaining."

I am sure you weight loss journey will be successful but this is lap band not gastric - we have to have fills before weight (normally) drops. You may want to discuss your expectations with your doctor.

My weight loss is moving like molasses (in other words really slow). I was banded 4 weeks ago this Thursday. I have my days when I feel really sad and upset about this. I guess I am ready to see results and I am trying my best not to get discouraged.

HI, just read your post and feel the same way. I was banded mid-Aug, on smash and mash and wonder how I'm not dropping weight. I know I'm still recovering, but the idea of eating this little and not budging on the scale for a week+ has me bummed and wondering if I'm doing things correctly. At first I felt so full, just having very small amounts of liquids and purees, but now I think it is all just running right through the band. The swelling from the hernia repair, etc must be going down, tho. I have my first fill next week so I'm looking forward to that. I guess the real worry is about failing. Thanks for the support!

I went to get my first adjustment and I had gained 2 pounds. My dr told me that was normal because I didn't have any Fluid in my band. Next week I go to get my 2nd adjustment I thank I have lost some weight. I went down a size in my uniform shirt and my uniform pants are getting really baggy.

I'm a slow loser, even with fills and (what I think is) proper restriction. I seem to be averaging about 7 pounds a month. It gets frustrating sometimes, but it beats the heck out of steadily gaining! I'm focusing on how much better I feel and on continuing to exercise regularly and eat right.

Some days that's easier than others.

I had surgery on August 17th. I lost 15 pounds in the first week, but since them, I've only lost 1.5 pounds more. I don't get a fill until Sept 27th, so I'm just trying to focus on staying between 1200 and 1400 calories and getting the appropriate amount of Protein. I'm getting a little discouraged, but I just keep reminding myself that it is not a race and overall, I'm down 16.5 pounds - which is better than where I was 3 weeks ago.

I have a buddy that had the surgery the week before me and she is experiencing exactly the same thing. I think it is common to not see much movement of the scale during this time.

Please remember weight loss with the band averages 1-2 pounds per week. I had lost a lot preband so I average 1 pound per week. You are averaging 2 pounds so I think that's pretty good. Remember you don't know what someone's situation was prebad. Did they have a preop diet? If not did they go from eating 2-3,000 calories a day to 400 a day the week after surgery?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
