Hey guys! I'm not quite one week post op and I walked all over the zoo today and I'm definitely regretting it right now. I guess that's a little dramatic because I don't really feel too bad. Just a little sore and tired. Today is the date I am "released" to go back to work, but I am a stay at home mom and zoo trips come with the territory. I'm not supposed to be on mushies until Wednesday and I ate a little oatmeal for Breakfast and a half a cup of cream of wheat for dinner. And man did it taste good. 2 weeks of liquids and starving was AWFUL. Just a half a cup of oatmeal in the morning gave me so much more energy and was the first time in two weeks I didn't feel like ripping someones face off. I forgot to weigh myself this morning but I think I'm down about 13 lbs since August 17th. I'll confirm/deny that tomorrow.

And I'm jealous of people who got good pain meds. We were told to take ibuprofen and it didn't really help much the first couple of painful days.

Hey bandsters! Angel here, 25 years old, banded with the Allergan Lap Band on August 26th and am currently 4 days post op. I am doing really well with almost no pain or gas troubles although I am getting really tired of the liquids. I mainly consume cream Soups, gatorade and Jello. I do feel somewhat restricted already as I can't get down more than a cup of Soup at most but I don't know if its the healing process or the band itself (no fill). Is this common? Oh well, one more month to go before I do solids! My starting (and highest weight ever) is 264 lbs - I stand at 5' 7" so that gives me a BMI of nearly 41. Yikes! I am quite determined to lose around 110 lbs so I am focused on following the rules and exercising to get that healthy body we are all after. Using this forum as well as YouTube for motivation and inspiration. There are so many successful bandsters out there with great results, I can't wait to be one of them! rolleyes.gif

Cheers!

My name is Tari, married 21 years, 2 sons-high school and middle school. I was banded Aug 18, feel great now, am back to work and doing quite well. I,ve lost 17 pounds which makes me feel so happy. Already down one jean size!

My only problem is Constipation. I'm unsure if I can take something to blast it through. My nurse told me to go on to mushies last thursday after only one week of post-op liquids and I thought this would help move things on. No luck yet for one week!!! I;ve been using Benefiber in my Protein Drinks but still not helping. Any ideas? Thanx

Hi everyone, Not used to the posting on the site. Does anyone know how to the take the dublicates out? lol! But just wanted to congradulate everyone for their great job. I've been reading everyones post and is has motivated me in this journey we are facing together. Since my surgery on 8/26 I've already lost 13lbs. But then again I'm in liquids and my stomach is still healing. I'm not sure until when I will be still in liquids, but like most of you is not fun and it has become very tyring. I believe they said a week in liquids so most like by Saturday 9/3. I have my first post op appointment tomorrow 9/1. Is anyone having problems sleeping at night? throat dryness and breathing problems?

My doc insisted I do a sleep study before surgery and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea I have to use a cpap machine now. Maybe that is why he pushed it so much.

Hi,

I did the sleep study before my surgery and they didn't found any sleep apnea. But now after surgery, I sleep in my bed half way seating and I wake up gasping for air in the middle of the night. I'm planning on discussing it with my doctor tomorrow and see what he says.

Hi!!! I am Mary Jo. I am 53. Have two children, age 31 and 26. Husband - SKINNY always. Started at 319, by time of surgery was 270. Surgery was Mon Aug 8th. Not alot of weight loss since, maybe 5-6 lbs and I am sure it is a lot of that Water weight. Still doing shakes only with some Jello and broth and can do yogurt. I can't have anything more solid until 9/22 apparently. I see others are actually able to have soft foods etc. I am not sure if I feel the band or not. I don't have any real issues but if I drink too fast or even sneak a bite of something when the fam isn't looking (Daughter and BF live with us) I feel a "heaviness" mid-belly which for a person of size probably is the lapband area, right? Surgeon feels it is my "trigger". I do not have a fill. That won't be for three more weeks until I am healed. Just keep the convo going. It is nice to know I am not alone. I live in Lakeland, FL and will go back to work tomorrow. Glad I took a whole week off just to chill.

Hi, I am 54 and work in Lakeland, live in Wesley Chapel. My starting weight was 306 and surgery was on Aug 25. I have not yet weighed myself. I am going to wait until I see MD next week for followup. I do ok with the Clear Liquids but I feel when they hit bottom and I am only taking about 2cc at a time. I did try the yougart with Protein Powder and I was able to take in 4 oz over a 15 minute time span. Debbie

It has been 7 days now since the banding was done. For the last 12 hours I have been STARVING. Stomach is making all kind of noise and I'm supposed to be on all liquids for 7 more days. Not going to make it. So, I started a mushy early. Just had a small serving of applesauce. Feeling a little better, but still hungry. That's all I am going to try for now, but I am worried how this next 7 days are going to go, plus I start back at work on Saturday. That us just going make it even harder, I manage a restaurant for a living. Wish me luck.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
