Beginning the Lap Band Journey

Recommended Posts

 Hello,

I am a new member and am excited that I found this website. I am competing on the Lap-Band surgery and am doing my homework. I plan to attend a Bariatric Seminar later this month and know that I will get a lot of information but I want to see what I can find out for myself. I have been overweight all my life had tried every diet in the world with some success but the weight crept back on. Now, I think I am ready for a major change.

My questions are general but I would like to see what you all have to say:

1-How long was your recovery? Numbers of days in the hospital, what did you come home with and how long where you out of work.

2-Was it hard to follow the new diet, did you have those moments that you wanted to go back and eat like you did before.

3-How did you re-program your brain to follow the new diet and new way of life.

4-How much weight have you lost since your surgery.

As you can see I have a lot of questions. I have two friends who had the Lap-Band and Gastric By-pass surgeries with great success. My friend who had the Gastric by-pass drop about 100 pounds since her surgery in the winter of last year and my friend who had the Lap-band surgery weight loss was done two years and her weight loss of 100 pounds was much slower.

Sorry for the long note but I want to find the in and outs of the surgery and the afterlife….

Thanks again,

lindyva

I can help with some of your questions- I am only a week out from surgery myself. My total time in the surgical center where I had mine was 6 hrs, 1 hr of which was the procedure and 2 hrs recovery. The rest of the time was all pre-op. All I had to be able to do to leave was be able walk short distances, pee once, have a flouroscopy to make sure it was open, and tolerate a small amount of Water.

I was given a prescription for lortab liquid- which BTW burns like hell when swallowing, so I mix it with a small amount of red Powerade to get it down without choking.

I get to go back to work tomorrow, 1 week out, which the surgeon said I could've gone back after 5 days, but I'm a nurse, so I wanted a couple extra days to recover so that I will be able to move at least half as fast as I could before surgery. But I'm not allowed to lift over 20lbs, and can't pull or move pts for about a month.

I am still having a hard time wraping my mind around my post op diet- I have been on thin liquids for the past week, I get thick liquids for the next week, then mushies for 1 week. So hopefully by the time I'm able to eat "real" food, I will have brainwashed my own mind into being careful.

Oh, for the record, I have allready lost 5 lbs since surgery.

My plan is to stick mainly to a diet geared for diabetics, that way I won't just be limiting my calories, but also carbs and sugars.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
