Just saying 'hi!' New girl here, looking for some support :)

Hi! I decided a year or so ago that I would have Lap Band surgery. My family and friends are not supportive in my decision... I have found a great Dr. and have been seeing the required nutritionist for insurance purposes; however, the dicouraging remarks from those around me, has brought me here to seek some support, and learn of others experiences. I hope to chat with you!

Good luck in your journey Sabrina. I know it is hard when you don't have the support you need. This really is a personal decision and you can't let them discourage you. Can I ask, why are they opposed to it?

I have lost weight in the past through diet and excercise, so they know I can do it on my own. Of course it has all come back, plus some, over and over again... They do not understand that my decision to get lap band is not a 'magic cure', but rather a weight loss tool that will help me keep on track.

All of us can loose weight, we just can't keep it off. It's not as simple as others seem to think. You'll find support here and the best thing you can do is show them how much this changes you for the better :).

This is your decision and your decision alone. I only have a wonderful supportive husband as far as support in the family. I do not have anybody else to worry about so this was my decision alone since it was going to be done on MY body. You don't say what their issue is with you getting banded, but this was the best decision I ever made. I am 58 yrs old and in the best shape of my life and have kept the weight off for the last 2 1/2 yrs. I do occasionally go up and down 5 pds and as long as it comes back off I will be fine. Read and understand all that is involved in the band and decide if this is truly what you want. It is the least invasive and safest of all the bariatric surgeries for losing weight, so you need to decide if this is for you. Good luck and do what you think is best for you.

Thanks sparkplug! I agree with you 100%. This is definately my decision! After reading hours of messages on this site, I am even more sure this is the right thing for ME! I realize that I do not have to convince anyone in my life that this is the right thing to do, in the end only God can judge me :) thank you for the assurance; you are the reason I joined this site... thank you!!

Sabrina.

Hi Sabrina,

I'm sorry you don't have the support of loved ones but I'd be more than happy to lend support where I can. I'm new here myself and was banded 5 days ago.

Hi Sabrina!

You have to make the decision that is best for you. This is your health and your body, noone has to live in it but you. it's ok to take care of you! That's probably the biggest thing I've learned so far. Most of the people on here have lost weight to some degree doing the usual (jenny, WW, etc) but not been able to keep it off. This is a tool to help us do that, it doesn't do all the work but it helps. I can't wait to be banded..I've already changed my habits and my thinking..I just need the final piece to really turn the page on this new chapter.

Good luck to you! Holler if you need support

Hi Sabrina,

Your letter broke my heart. I tried things a little differently than you (probably because I am MUCH older and know better how I needed to deal with my family/friends). I would strongly encourage you to have the surgery - if you feel you need it. It is NOT your friends or anyone elses body - it is YOURS. The three select friends that I did tell (after surgery) were very supportive and remain so. I have not told many people anything. Again, because it is my body and not theirs. Even my mother does not know.

The first couple of weeks, with just drinking Protein and eating really soft foods are not bad at all. And I commend you for going to a nutritionist and continuing to work through those means to eventually have the surgery. By a month out of surgery, I was eating anything I wanted - but I have never been a big chips or sweets eater. I have thrown up a couple of times - but in those instances, I knew what I had done wrong and try very hard not to do it again - like eat things that are too dry (some meats) , too fiberous - like eating steamed broccoli (at the beginning of the experimentation of eating solids).

Have you picked a doctor? Best of luck with your decision and you have a strong support group here.

Edie

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
