Shifting Attitudes

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about the way men and women treat a person based on their weight. As you all know, overweight people are often treated with bias, regarded as lazy, weak, or unclean. When people who are overweight begin to lose weight, attitudes shift. As a person who has undergone weight loss surgery and has been slowly losing weight over the last two years, I can attest to this. As I get slimmer, I notice that I get more unwanted attention from men who would not have given me a second glance sixty something pounds ago. I have noticed that some women are less friendly towards me. I have even detected jealousy from a few. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this. What do you notice about people's attitudes towards you as you lose weight and start to look different?

I hear ya, Sister! In the old days, I may as well have been invisible. Now men flirt with me constantly. Clerks fall all over themselves to wait on me. Cops pull me over and DON'T give me tickets. Yesterday I got out of my car to pump gas at a station you have to pay first at. The attendant told me, over the intercom, go ahead and pump first. People make eye contact and smile as they walk by instead of diverting their attention. The list goes on and on. But guess what? I'M THE SAME PERSON I WAS 145 POUNDS AGO!!!!!

Yes, all are true for me too. Although I was always a friendly and outgoing person, I find my outgoingness makes more of a difference now. People appreciate my taking time to say thank you - so they want attention too. I know many feel 'I am the same person I was 80 pounds ago' BUT, when I really look at myself, I'm not exactly the same. Yes, I weigh less, I am now "normal BMI", more attractive but also I'm more confident, feel more sexy and okay with myself so I assert more. Does that make sense? My own self confidence has increased with my weight changes, and I think it is received well and so I get treated better. Just some thoughts I've had.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
