Tomorrows the day!! Super excited/ nervous

Recommended Posts

So tomorrow at 9:15 is the start to the new rest of my life. After years of being over weight and goig threw 3 surgeries and complications over the past 5 months, the day is finally here. I'm super excited but so nervous about what's goig to happen and how this change is going to affect my life!! Is there anything that you needed after the surgery that no one told you?!? I think I have everything I may need but I'm not 100% sure.

Tomorrow is the big day for me too = we are band buddies! :D Feeling all of thre same things - super excited, full of anticipation, nervous about getting anethesia (have never had it before). Honestly, I just want to get to bed and fall asleep so I will 1. NOT be so hungry! (have been on a 2-week pre-op diet of Protein shakes, bars, broth, and sugar-free Jello/popscicles , with the past 2 days being clear liquid ONLY. In some ways it's been harder than I thought it would be...) and 2. just want tomorrow to get here already!! I don't deal so well with the "unknown," and this is one HUGE unknown, But I know I'm doing the right thing and have faith things will work out the way I want them to. Maybe not exactly how I want them to, but I'll get there. I'm sure it will be the same for you.

Good Luck & see you on "the other side"!! Let us all know how things go!

It's good to have someone who is going to be going threw the exact same thing!! I have had a appendectomy an gallbladder removal in feb. Than march. If it's anythig like the gallbladder which my surgeon says it will then we will be good to go!! But with every person and every surgery is different!! Luckily I did NOT have to do a pre op diet! I see that the majority did though and wonder if I should have asked the pros and cons of not doing it. Just think tomorrow is the start of a brand new journey. I will be keeping posted of what's goig on. Good luck to you hoppy everything goes great... :)

I just hot Woken up this morning for vital signs. It was a rough night!! I had surgery at 9:15 it took 3 hours and I was in a hospital room by 1-2 ish. I was somewhat out of it until 3 then I got up to use bathroom and sit in chair for an hour. I can only drink 1 of the small medicine cups 30cc an hour. I have been tolerating it well but get full easily from that. I am very sore and feel sick and undone pain from co2. I got up and walked and sat up for an hour last night. I did need pain medicine about every 4-5 hours. The worst part was my room mate waking me up every 30 minutes whining in pain. I received my packet from surgeon on what my diet should be it's not too bad, I'm waiting for him to come access me then I go for an crayon and the swallow once that's done I should be good to go!! Oveall I feel like this was worth it already!! Good luck to those no matter what part you're into getting surgery. I will keep everyone posted.

Lb love

Hi Sheila,

Today is day 8 in the post op world. The first few days were hard but as the week went on it got much easier. I am still really sore around my stomach especially the port site. But that's a given when you're cut open and have stitches! I'm super hungry all the time but have figured out what to eat/ drink and when to satisfy my cravings. I do not have a fill yet so I'm sure that will help. The diet was very hard for me because I was so hungry, but I stuck to it as well as I could I did however start some of the new foods a day early. I feel if I'm eating slow and small amounts and my body takes it then I'm okay. Every person is different though. My surgeon had me on Clear liquids with Protein shake till day 6 I did start pudding day 5 because i was hungry. This week is creamed Soups pudding Jello. I have started yogurt and cottage cheese too. It all depends on you your surgeon , he told me to do what my body said!! I'm very glad I did it, it made me see a whole new light and way of eating. I'm not going to lie though the first few days I had regret because of the pain and the new idea of not being able to eat anything!!! Good luck to you and if you have more questions please ask!!!

Well, I'm glad you are doing ok. I am waiting for my Consultation on August 17 at noon. I went to my primary Dr yesterday and she was upset becasue I gained 12 pounds. She asked me why? I told her I had to qualify for the lap band and my BMI was a little low and the Nutrionist said too stop dieting. Now my BMI is higher and I am sitting her feeling like a stuffed TURKEY. I cant wait until I get my weight submitted to the insurance so I can start taking off what I put on and get on with the procedure. (like it is that easy) It just seems like it is taking forever and ever. A few cow-workers of mine had this done and over a two year stretch one lost 70 pounds and one lost a 100 pounds. I worry about the surgery and the pain. I have heard this DR. will put me on a liguid diet before the surgery to loose liver fat. LOL I already know I have a fat liver isn't it crazy that I had too gain weight just to turn around and take it off? Your post maded me feel more confident evn though you said,"You were sore and hungry" . I worry too about starting to eat musshy foods and how I will feel I dont want to choke sounds scary. I dont have regrets or feel like chickening out. My friend told me a freind of hers had the same surgery and the day after she was out of the hospital she went to Vegas!!! Go figure!! So I would love to ask you more questions as they arrive. Most of all, how much weight have you lost? My freinds say they lost most of their weight during the first month or so. Pleae feel free to stay in contact with me I would love to here more about your progress.

Thanks

Sheila

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
