I am three weeks out from surgery, and am very confused. I can eat canned chicken, but I still feel like it is sticking in my throat. Crispy things go on through. It is very difficult to drink because it feels like it won't go down quickly at all. I do feel hungry, but am afraid to try anything. I would appreciate any suggestions. I am not sure how to tell if I am full, and when I should eat.

At that stage, I was eating 1/4 cup of food three times a day. I was still on mushies so it was usually scrambled eggs or Refried Beans or something like that.

You should be eating whatever your doctor says you should be eating in the quantities he/she says. Stop when you finish the quantity or before you finish it, not when you feel full.

Totally normal! for some reason, crispier things are easier for the stomach to digest. So eating chicken might be harder, while crackers are easier. I am one year post op and still learning! Just take it easy and learn what works for you. Protein shakes = my life. Try mashed potatoes too! They help with the feeling of being satisfied. Honestly, the "full" feeling comes once in a blue moon for me. Focus more on satisfied rather than full!

I will have had my band for 3 weeks on Monday. I don't do crackers, breads, that kind of stuff yet because having to get 60 g of Protein in every day, and I'm only allowed 1/2 cup food 3 x a day,,

Here's a typical day of food for me.

My dietician has me counting only 2 things:

Protein (at least 60 g a day)

fluids (at least 64 oz a day)

I am allowed 1/2 cup of food at each meal (3 x a day)

Example:

6 am = Protein shake (20 g protein) (I don't have time for BF)

11 am= 1/2 cup mashed tuna with 1 tbs light mayo (16g protein)

3 pm = Protein Shake (15 g protein)

6 pm = 1/4 c meatloaf (food processor) (10 g protein)+ 1/4 c mash pot. (2 g protein)

total = 63 G protein

approx 700 calories..

(64 oz diet tea or Water through out day)

hope this helps..

I had my surgery on 7/1, I am eating about 1/2 -3/4 of food a day. Plus getting between 60 and 80 grams of Protein per day.

Here is what I usually eat.

1 greek yogurt/ 1/2 cream of cream of wheat

1 glass of V8

lunch

egg drop Soup

dinner

3oz of grilled grouper (mushy)

1 Tomato slice (no skin just the center ( chewed until mushy consistency)

pinch of feta cheese

Last night I was starving so I had about 1/2 c of refried Beans with a pinch of cheese, 1 t of guacamole.

My calories range between 600-800 per day.

There is a list of mushy foods that really helped me at the grocery store. What I am worried about am I eating too much.. I feel no restriction at all, I am finally feeling what a lot of people on here are feeling. I eat when I am satisfied and not to full.

I was so worried about everything and my doctor told me " stop worrying and live you life" So that is what I have been doing. I have stopped the Protein drinks (I know a bad idea, but I am still getting the Protein I need daily.)

My question is do you think I should be doing anything different? Or is there any suggestions? I still have had no bread, Pasta, crackers anything crunchy, no sweets, and no potatoes.

Like I am not a schedule person. So like it is 5pm and I have eaten cream of wheat and a cheese stick. Of course Water. I have been only been eating when hungry.

Thanks in advance!!

Uh oh...after reading these, now I feel like I'm eating too much! The sheet my Dr. gave me has me eating the following:

Breakfast - 1/2 cup cream of wheat or oatmeal

Snack - 4 oz Protein (usually have Protein shake)

lunch - 1/2 cup protein and 1/2 cup vegies

Snack - 4 oz protein

dinner - 1/2 cup protein and 1/2 cup fruit (mushed of course - e.g. applesauce)

Snack - 4 oz protein

I'm averaging about 900 calories a day, and getting over my 60 grams of protein. Can one have too much protein?

Should my calories be less?

Idon't feel much of a restriction either. Sometimes I do get a "stuck" feeling and it comes back up. I am not sure if that is being too full or if something is actually stuck. I guess we are supposed to try different things and find what works for us.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
