Whitehead bonanza after laser hair removal

Recommended Posts

Ugh, I just had my 2nd laser hair removal on my chin last night. Went *much* better than last time regarding the pain part.

But this morning I woke up to a swollen chin with about 20 or so whiteheads and clearly more are forming under there. Yuck!!!

Any suggestions? Do i just slather my chin in some pimple cream that's supposed to dry this out? Do I slather in anti-bacterial like neosporin or bacitracin?

Any other suggestions? I have a weekend full of activities involving being with lots of other people and hardly want a chin full of whiteheads! Gross!:yuck:

What ever you do don't pick. A warm wash cloth held to the chin to help bring all of them up will be good. Than gently & I mean gently wipe has much away as possible. After you can use a cold compress to close what pores are open shut & help with the swelling. IT may be a on-going thing for a week or so until the area can calm down. These more than likely are the hair folicules that are now just a little "pussed-off" since you had the treatment.LOL But the good news is they will calm down & get better & you'll be hairless-Whhhooohooo.

Neosporin I would only use if you think your getting an infection or had a slight burn. Zit creams I would stay away from in the begining(1st week) too much on that tender skin can make matters much worse & damage it all together. So just try & let it be done with the wash cloth maybe 2xs a day. I hope your feeling better & hope this works. Good Luck.

OH man I am soooooooooooo jealous. I would rather have the whiteheads than the dark hair. I am looking for a good Laser Hair removal place in my area.

Anyone know of a good place? I live in the Los Angeles area and I am sure there are lots but it still would be nice to have a referral.

Thank you! I'll try the warm wash cloth and ice & see if it helps. I was red & swollen last time and got a few whiteheads but nothing like this.

Penni -- hope you find a good place! It is sooooo worth it, even after the first treatment I had so much less hair. I'm looking forward to a couple weeks from now when my chin clears up and and I'm even more hairless. :)

I've had this happen once or twice, but for future reference, make sure you use a good anti-bacterial soap on you face after your next treatment.

And I would say that depending on how bad you've broken out, a little bacitracion before you go to bed wouldn't hurt, that's what I do when I have tis happen.

Man do I need this.

I have PCOS and I practically have a beard ( I shave every day) and thinning hair.

I just don't know who or where to go to that is good.

I worked in a spa and the facialist told me that , like Vinesqueen said, use anti-bacterial products on it (tea tree oil, Oxy-5, etc). That is what the whiteheads are, little infections at the pores. She also told me to moisturize so that the little cuts are protected from bacteria getting in.

If you have mineral makeup, maybe dust some on top to cover them up?

I rarely get pimples anymore, maybe a couple here and there once a month or so, and I am sure it's because I switched to mineral makeup, so I wouldn't worry about aggrivating the area with it.

Tons, Penni. Where are you in LA? The one I went to in Newport Beach has it's main office in LA or Beverly HIlls. They were expensive but after several interviews with others I had more confidence in them than the others (I'm also NOT a believer in skimping on medical practices).

I can't remember the name offhand but if you're interested in LA/BH area lmk and I will find it.

As to the whiteheads, I used to get those when I waxed, but not when I did laser. I know it's a big no-no, but I always squeezed them. They came to a head pretty easily because they were so small, and I had redness in that area for abuot 6 hours, but then I didn't have any problems after that. Again, not something you're supposed to do -- but I did it.

Hell I drive to Newport Beach now for my eye doc so what is one more trip. Especially since I have a nifty swifty new car. LOL!! So PM me the info girlie girl!!

Hey maybe we can do lunch or something when I come for a treatment? That would be fun.

If you have sensitive skin be careful what treatments you use. I have really sensitive skin and I can't come within 10 feet of tea tree oil. If I put it on, within an hour or two my skin looks like it is burned... red, raw, covered with crusty "dead" skin like scales, and it really hurts & itches. Horrible. I can use stuff like Oxy10 cream (my skin is so oily that I will use that stuff in lieu of foundation), but I can't use it every day, once or twice a week.

I use, love, and would recommend a product made by a company... it's called something like Desert Essence... Desert Essentials... something like that. Anyway, they have a "blemish stick" that's great!

Oh, and anything Burt's Bees does well with my skin too, and always Aveeno moisturizer, I like it more than the $$ beauty counter brands UI always used to buy.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
