This is such a popular question on here that I have decided to share my own Protein shake recipes with fellow Bandsters.

Jay Robb's whey Protein (vanilla) from Whole Foods Market (seems to be the absolute best tasting and I heard one of the most popular. It also has 25 grams of protein per scoop!

It's the only kind I ever use now. Not only for the taste, but because he uses what I feel to be a better alternative sweeter called Stevia in it, instead of Aspartame.

ENJOY!!! :D

J’s High Protein Full liquid Recipes

PHASE 2: Full liquid diet

This starts 1 day after surgery

NOTE: On the Full liquid diet, up to 6-8oz per meal is OK for 3-6 meals a day with lots of Water and mini 2-4oz Snacks in between (snacks are optional, but can create slower weight loss). Make sure to drink LOTS of Water. The bulk of your fullness should be water. Stop before feeling full. I am consistently losing weight with these measurements.

Remember to drink or eat very slowly. You can train yourself by using tiny baby spoons.

The point of this 6 week plan, I am told is partly to shrink your stomach and get you prepared for the first band tightening where you will be limited to very tiny amounts. The doc wants you to get bored of these foods, because after the 6 weeks, you go strictly to solids and water. No more mushy or liquids.

All of my recipes include ingredients that can be found at most Whole Foods Markets, Trader Joes or Meijers Grocery.

Organic products are all optional, but I (from recent experience) highly recommend for those wanting a more rapid weight loss or healthier system in general. Using skim milk over cream or any other dairy milk will speed it up as well. The nut milks are a great way to sneak in even more nutrients. Most grocery stores carry these organic products now, but you have to look for them.

*All my high fat recipes include only healthy or beneficial fats that have not been processed and do not include any hydrogenated oils. Please check the nutrition labels before purchasing any ingredients.*

My Personal Tips for More Rapid Weight Loss Using the liquid Recipes:

1. Use my snack recipes only once a day

2. Choose only my low fat options from my recipe list

3. Stay under 1000 calories.

4. Minimize the amount of sweetener used

5. Choose a Superfoods recipe at least once per day

6. Take liquid multi Vitamins from Whole Foods Market once a day

7. DRINK MORE WATER

Full Liquid Snacks

Note: Have these ONLY after you have gotten your required amount of protein in for the day and are still hungry. These will fill you and add extra nutrients to your daily diet.

These contain higher fat and may slow down weight loss. Mix cream Soups with water for better results.

Cream Soups

Meijers Grocery & Whole Foods Market carry an AMAZING Organic Cream Soups collection, Imagine & Pacific brand, where you can poor it right out of the carton! Most of the soups have no chunks in them (chunks have to be strained). You can also choose the LOW SODIUM flavors which are very good and (optional) add real sea salt from Whole Foods Market to them later if you want. Choose any flavor and enjoy!

My Faves:

  1. Organic Creamy Tomato

I prefer the ready to drink drinks. EAS Myoplex Advantage have about 17g of Protein per 8 oz shake with only 110 calories and about 3g of fat. I also like MuscleMilk light. I tried Isopure for a fruit flavor instead of the regular chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla. Isopure tasted like candy chalk and I went back to my old two.

The others in the MuscleMilk and Myoplex line are good, but my goal was to get the most Protein with least number of calories. 18 months later and i have 1 Myoplex a day. Still love them after all this time.

In reading other post I am noting that guys are tending to lean towards the muscle milk light. Women don't seem to like it as much and use other stuff. I am joining Sam's club(we have no costco in my area) to get deals on it there. I bought a muscle milk light yesterday and put it in the fridge. I am going to use it as my lunch today to try it out.

I like the EAS advantEdge, 17 grams Protein. What I really like are the Syntrax Nectar powders, whey protein.. 100 calories, 22 grams of protein. My favorites are fuzzy navel and Roadside Lemonade.< /p>

I have to tell you that normally, any whey Protein Powder mixed in Water makes me gag. These however, actually tast like what they're named... they're damned good! google Syntrax and shop around. average price is about 30 bucks for a 2.2 lb container. They made my two week preop diet easier, and they are a tremendous help now that I'm banded!

Andy - before you hit the SamS club - check your local cvs and gas stations - many sell them as single serve so you taste test before you end up with a case of something that tastes nasty!

Ditto this, I love the Muscle Milk Light, taste pretty darn good to me. I tried the powders, they just smelled bad and had a chemical aftertaste like crap.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
