What things can I do to help my skin

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking of getting the lap band, but affraid of the extra skin that comes after losing weight, I'm 26 and have about 150 to lose. I will be paying out of pock so it will be hard to come up with extra money for the tummy tuck/body tuck , so I was wondering what things can I do while losing weight that will help advoid my skin to sag. and for those in your mid/late twenties that have had the lap band how did your skin look after losing your weight?

If you can, real sea salt baths! :D Or swim in the ocean AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE if you live near one. You can buy natural Epsom salts at health food stores in the U.S. like Whole Foods Market, or online. The salt smooths and tightens the skin. Just poor about 1/2 a cup into your hot bath Water and soak your whole body. I realize that us being bigger people, baths are difficult to do unless you own a very large tub, but I guess every little bit helps, right?

Sometimes insurance will pay for the Tummy Tuck or (if your real lucky) the arm tucks if your doctor says that it is bad for your health because the extra skin can grow so much bacteria in the folds that it is harmful to your health. (it's very rare that can happen, but the cool docs will report that so that you can hopefully get it covered by insurance).

Then, of course there is the typical working out with weight training to firm up. Trainers can teach you how to firm, rather then build to the point where your all muscle-y and stuff. I have 2 hand held weights at home that I like to use lightly every day when i watch tv because I know it's now or never to really start getting my arms where they will need to be by the time I reach my goal weight.

Hope any of that helps, and good luck!

Drink LOTS of Water. It helps the skin keep its elasticity. You have youth on your side so it should be easier for you.

There's really not much you can do, it has to do with how long you've been overweight, age, genetics etc. I'm 28, I have a ways to go sti but so far my stomach is doing ok, arms may be a little flabby. I'm losing slowly though and I think that helps. I think if you lose to fast your skin may not adjust as much

slowly losing the weight and working out can really help.

Yes I did have a Tummy Tuck but I regret not waiting. It started as a mini just to remove a bump I had from my port and turned into this big thing.

At 25 my skin has changed so much. In a year I only lost 20 lbs ( after I lost about 40 lbs) but went down 2 dress sizes simply because I was toning and my body changed so much.

I was scheduled for a breast lift but my doc looked at my boobs the day of surgery and said oh you don't need a lift anymore. I went from a dd to b and I don't NEED a lift I just want everything to be perfect but I won't bother, I'll save the money for something else.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
