Does eating right before getting a fill make you feel tighter?

Recommended Posts

I was on my way to get my fill today and realized that I had some time to kill and hadn't eaten lunch, so I decided to stop and get something to eat, and long story short, by the time I had gotten my food, and sat down to eat my food, it was only about 1/2 hour before my appt time. I felt ok before getting my fill, just really full. The doctor had a hard time finding my port and was pushing all around my stomach, which wasn't much fun. Especially on a full belly, but he eventually got it in. He asked if I wanted 1/2 cc or 1cc, which I answered 1cc. This is my third fill and I knew that I might either be at the right level with this one or maybe a little tight. So after my fill, I drank my Water, which went down ok, but I felt like I had heart burn a little. I was a little uncomfortable on the ride home, but wasn't sure if it was because of eating right before the fill or maybe I am too tight. It is evening time now, and I still feel really full, a little uncomfortable still. Just wondering from anyone who knows what it feels like, does this sound like I may need some Fluid out? I guess I am going to have some Soup for dinner tonight, even though I don't feel very hungry. I appreciate any input or advice! Thanks!

I felt the same after my first and second fill.........it takes a few days for the swelling to go down. That is why it is really important to eat liquids for 24 hrs. after then progress to mushies. My tightness went away after about 48 hrs.

You are never supposed to eat before a fill. I wish Drs would advise patients of this. Next time go on an empty stomach or do liquids that day if you have an afternoon appt. Or eat Breakfast and then liquids

I SOOOOOO agree with you! I feel terrible! but I did manage to burp a little (sorry that's kinda gross to say) and it helped a little, but still feeling uncomfortable. I learned this lesson the hard way!

Another example of "different doctor, different rules". My doctor says it's ok to eat before a fill. I never do though but that's because I don't want to eat before I get on the scale!

It's best not to eat for at least four hours prior to a fill to give your stomach time to stop churning after a meal (which can happen for hours).

But, since you're already in the post phase, go on fluids for a few days. Don't eat if you're not hungry. Do fluids, then mushies, then soft, etc. If you're not able to easily consume mushies or soft food every 4-5 hours by Tuesday then go in for an unfill of about half.

And next time, don't eat ; )

I agree with this. My doc didn't say don't eat but I

Never eat before going to any doctors because I don't want my weight to be up...lol. I kind of regretted it at my last visit because I got my first fill and then was told liquids only for the next 2 days and I was hungry, oh well.

I got my second fill on Tuesday. I also ate before my fill. He had a hard time hitting my port as well, but he got it after three tries. He put in 1cc and I already had 2cc in my 4cc band. I was fine and was able to drink Water just fine. Then three hours later I was in horrible pain, and it lasted through last night. I had horrific gas. It was pushing up on my band and I thought I was going to die. I feel so much better today.

My DR. is very strict. He says 3 days of Clear Liquids and 4 days of full liquids and 7 days of soft foods before a regular diet is resumed after a fill. I am following his instructions because I believe he knows best. I do not want to dilate my esophogus and or stretch my pouch. I also want to be sure the inflammation goes down, as I know I am swollen as I can feel it.

Good Luck!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
