Surgery---August 3, 3:45PM Mountainside Hospital, Montclair NJ

Hi. I am 7 days from my surgery, and starting to have emotional ups and downs. My emotions are on edge, and things are really bothering me! Everything is really bugging me. I am headachy and snapping at everyone! I am NOT like this. Could be the lack of food on the pre-op diet----I am probably not taking in enough calories. I am feeling anxiety and sadness over this decision. I keep thinking I am the one person for whom lapbanding will NOT work. Why would anyone elect to do this?

I have a lot of responsibility at home (I am full-time caregiver for my mom) and I am feeling so stressed out this week. I made arrangements for another caregiver but thatis only for a couple of days. My sister will be here too, but she doesn't care for mom and is uncomfortable changing her diapers and washing her etc. I will have to take back over the job on Saturday (Surgery is Wednesday).

I guess the worst part is that I have to be the strong one. the person that doesn't complain or have probems. I know I made this decision and am sticking by it because I need to do this for me and nobody else. I have put myself first and its a new role. After raising 6 kids and being a mother wife and teacher, I made this decision for my own health and welfare.

I really just want to have a huge boo-hoo and get it all out. I can't do this at home though. I will probably go take a walk to the park with the dog and cry it out.

Ah well, I will survive this and appreciate the chance to put words to my emotions.

I have my surgery scheduled for Aug. 2nd!!! I'm getting it in Seattle at the Swedish Hospital through the Swedish Weight Loss Center. I highly recommend them to anyone- they really take over all the tricky insurance stuff and line-up your appointments for you. All my pre-surgery tests and appointments are done, I've got my work covered for the rest of that week, and I have my pre & post surgery medicines/vitamins all bought and lined-up. I AM SO READY!!!!!!!!!!!

Karyn

YAY for AUG 2nd!!!! High five!!:D

You deserve this, making a decision such as this to change your life will be the best decision you will ever make. Go for that walk and have a nice cry, it'll make you fell better!

Everything will be just fine. :)

I'm having my surgery August 1st. Any suggestions, ideas to ease my apprehension about life after banding would be appreciated.

Hi Linda,

I feel your pain. Be strong and think about taking care of you now. This is your time, and sometimes we need to be selfish when we are so giving.

I wish you the best of luck!!

I FINALLY got my surgery date! August 4th!!!!! I am so excited! I feel like it's a long ways away!

Who else is getting banded in August?

My surgery date is August 25th (just received confirm 30 min ago my insurance approved) my liquid diet begins August 11th and I'm so happy but yet nervous.

My doctor said I will be out of work 2-3 weeks. I was approved for 3 weeks at my job but the insurance lady at my doctor's office is giving me a hard time and said because of the type of work I do (administrative) I should only be out for 1 week. (My doctors office needs to sign off on the FML paperwork) She'll need to talk to my doctor about it and get back to me. I'm hoping for 3 weeks since it's approved and pay for by my job, but will take one if that's the final decison. Good luck to you and the rest who will be banded soon. We can do this ;)

Now if only I can figure out how to post a ticker. I'm kind of new to this site.

Breathe! It's all good. I get banded on Tuesday, too. Check out my blog (link below) and if you haven't bought "Bandwagon" yet, do so now through Amazon.< /p>

what is pre -op not sure

I think what is being referred to here is the preop diet that most surgeons have you go on one to two weeks prior to your surgery.

I've had the "nothing else has worked, why should this" lines run through my head a couple times. But I know it's a false voice. Your is too!

As for being strong by holding it in - strength is asking for what you need, telling people how you feel, and not worrying about what they think. 90% of people's actions/reactions have to do with them, not you. If your sister can't/won't personally contribute to the your mother's needs then ask her to pay for a few more days of outside help.

You need a supportive safety-net of family and friends during this LIFELONG, life-changing journey. Build this system now and with a good foundation. You've already joined this forum. Check out my website (link below), other's websites, and get the book "Bandwagon" from Amazon.< /p>

You've found the courage to start this amazing adventure, don't stop now. Baby-steps. Breathe. And remember: 4 steps forward and 3 steps back is still ONE STEP AHEAD!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
