Married ladies, did your dh go to your PS consult with you?

Recommended Posts

I know this is going to sound so dumb but in a way I'm nervous and I want dh to go with me but then again he's never really looked to closely at my post weight loss body and I don't want him to now either.

He knows my stomach is saggy, but he doesn't know that my upper thighs are and I don't really want him to know, I don't know why but I just don't want him seeing it. He knows I need a Tummy Tuck and he's on board with it but I'm also considering getting my thighs lifted and he doesn't know anything about that.

I guess I'm just feeling insecure about my looks. Do I take him or not?

I'd take mine! But, he would have seen my thighs too! I am not shy about showing things I want fixed! You are the one that has to be comfortable during your consult. If it would make you nervous or not truthful with the surgeon then I say do not take him. You can always fill him in on how the consult went. Likewise, if you think it would help you articulate what you want to say....then take him! Good luck. I can't wait to be at the TT stage. Congratulations on your weight loss!

I say... NOT - Although if he is a great man then you could LOL

My - Now ex - I took to my first PS visit and wished I hadn't as all he did was talk about man things and I didnt get to ask any of my questions! I had even asked him to wait outside but he didn't. (Shows why he is my ex I guess)

Always take a list of your questions, and make sure you ask them.

Good luck

Seriously, how could you get your thighs lifted without your partner knowing?

But personally - hmmm, not sure, I dont *think* I'd take my husband to a ps consult. I mean I've been to one alone on a mission simply to find out what they'd do and what's possible, without really being serious about having surgery. I'd want breast work done and to be honest, my dh wants huge enormous plastic tits, the bigger and rounder the better and I cant think of anything I'd less rather do to my body. He'd be supportive of what I choose to do, but I know that's what he'd like me to do. I would simply want a lift and small teardrop implant, to replace the size that the lift would take away, so that I remain a C cup. So I'd go on my own. But I probably wont go because i'd feel bad spending so much of the family's money when I wasnt even getting done what DH would like me too, lol.

I am guessing that you are talking about your husband??? I can tell you that I understand about not wanting anyone to see your fat or lack of after weight loss. However, I will not keep anything from my hubby. He is 100% behind me. Being able to breath better and having less knee pain is more important than how the fat looks. Good luck to you.

Hi, I have had a Tummy Tuck and a breast reduction. I didn't take my husband to any of my consults but was glad to have him drive me to the followup appointments. I felt less distracted not having him at the initial consults and I could concentrate on all my questions. He is very supportive of all my surgery and I'm booked for an arm lift next.

It's up to you. I didn't take mine with me; yes, he's very supportive and was there for me through it all. I personally wanted to do the consults alone, which had nothing to do with not wanting hubby seeing anything. I really don't think there's anything he hasn't already seen.

I went to 5 different consults before picking the PS I felt suited me. I'm anal and didn't want my husband or anyone else having to go with me to these appointments and hear me grill the docs. All in all it was best for me to go alone. Hubby, took me to most of my post op appointments and was my nurse during the first week or so. He has been the BEST support system a girl could ever ask for. By the way, I'm going in tomorrow to have a revision done on my TT; yes, hubby will be right there with me.

Can i be noisy and ask why a revision on your tt? Have you lost more weight? I'm happy with mine but can see having a revision maybe down the road. Thanks and good luck!

Oh he would definitely know I'm getting my thighs done but I'd rather tell him that it was one of the things that the doc noticed and said he could fix.

Although, today I saw my sister in laws thighs up close and I feel much better with my own now. Hers look like mine and she's a normal weight. Hers was just from pregnancy weight gain.

I really dont know why you would take your DH or anyone to the appointment. The decisions to be made are between you and your surgeon. I can see taking him if it was to discuss something like cancer treatment but for elective cosmetic surgery? I dont think most men even want to be involved in that...its a little like shopping for lingerie or handbags....leave him home!

I probably won't make any friends with this reply but we're talking major surgery and I can't imagine not having my best friend and soul mate right there with me every step of the way. Not to mention that there is not a single part of my body that he does not know about.

My husband went to my consult and asked some great questions. In my marriage we do things together and not because we have to but because that's why we're married. This is the man that helped make it possible financially to have this procedure and will be wiping my butt when I get home, dressing me, and wiping my tears when I'm in pain.

Someone mentioned something about husbands not wanting to be apart of this stuff and just let them hold on to your purse...All I can say is WOW!

Good luck with your consult and I truly hope you let your husband be apart of this big day.

I think it is up to you as an individual. Some have the relationship with their DHs that inspire them and they are a detailed part of the journey and then there are some who rather not have DH around when talking with the PS. Do what you are comfortable with.

Personally, like jujuvee my DH and I are a team and we make a great one at that. He thinks of questions that I don't and I think of questions that he doesn't. I want him in on all aspects and I want him educated and to have all of his questions answered. He is my advocate, friend, care taker and he will stand behind as well as beside me during my time of surgery when it comes.

Even though he will be there to meet and speak with the PS, it is my decision on what I am going to have done and I will choose the PS who will perform the surgery.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
