Did anyone have a liver biopsy when they got the lap band done?

Recommended Posts

When I got out of surgery I was told that they did a liver biopsy on me, i kept asking why and they said its something they always do. Does anyone know about this?

I wish I would have. I have a spot on my liver that my regular doctor has been keeping an eye on. I didnt know they did that. Did they find anything?

I am 4 days post op and was told the same. They said with fatty livers, they like to test for the early stages of a couple diseases. I find out on Thursday, my week check up, my results. They said it's fairly common to have a fatty liver but it's another positive reason that we had it done. :)

Oh ok.... I just got my surgery 2 days ago and was wondering. I hope they don't find anything wrong! Thanks ladies!

I didn't but I have seen someone else on this forum post about this. I want to say their surgeon said it had something to do with a study regarding lapbands. I could be wrong but maybe do a forum search for liver biopsy. Sorry I don't have more details.

I had a biopsy. He is sending me to a specialist to confirm fatty liver disease. Left untreated (treat with weight loss) I could develop liver failure and/or cirrhosis.

I wanted a biopsy, but my doctor didn't want to touch my liver. I have fibrosis and I just wanted a progress report. I guess they all have their preferences.

This is certainly something your surgeon should be telling you he is going to do, BEFORE the surgery. One post I read on here was from a gentleman who had a only found out by reading the fine print in a stack full of papers he had to sign at the pre-op consultation...he almost made it sound like it wasn't something for his benefit but more for a "study" someone was doing. I don't particularly want to be someone's guinea pig so I'm going to ask my doc before hand (and read every word before signing stuff!)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
