How you'll feel after 1st fill?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! This is my first post but I've been reading the boards for months. Surgery was 5/4/11 and down 21 lbs so far. Had my first fill this past Monday and was not expecting it to hurt so much. It took my breath away and I will admit there were some unladylike words that came out of this Southern girl's mouth. It felt like he put the needle in and shoved down and over to get the port over to it. It's been five days and it is still very sore & tender. NO fever/redness/oozing/bruising, etc. Just sore, especially the more I move throughout the day. Nurse isn't worried unless any of the other symptoms arise, but she said it's a bit uncommon to be sore 5 days later. (I was thinking..."you didn't witness the manipulation he did on my port area, lady!" I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered such a painful fill and continuing soreness post-fill. :)

I had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery they numbed the skin but seemed like they were really manipulating of the port kept missing the "target" alot of poking the hard plastic thing. they finally succeeded in getting 4.5 cc in and my port area was sore for a couple weeks after :/ I am hoping my next fill at the end of the month goes much smoother.

No, I wouldn't say that's normal. I mean, it is for what you went through- but THAT isn't normal and fills should be quick and easy. Yuck!

Thank you both for replying! The nurse said they should get easier but that was much more than I expected. It made the surgery look like a breeze. I go back for Fill # 2 on 7/5/11 and am hoping the second time is better. Fifimcbandster, I hope your fill at the end of the month is better than the first, too! :)

Mine didn't hurt at all ! Now covered in scar tissue, I watch them forcing to try to get the needle in (SOMETIMES I DON"T THINK THERE GOING TO GET THREW...) They get threw the scar tissue, but there is no pain !

I don't know why you should hurt. It's just in the belly fat, then into the port.

Sorry to hear your having a hard time, I hope it does get better for you.

My first fill was also very qick and easy. I was sore the next day in the port area. It was similar to having blood drawn to me. Not fun but not awful either.

My office has me stand up against the wall, 1 stick for numbing, 1stick for fill needle, drink of Water, if the water goes down fine she will remove the needle. Sometimes I'm a little tender but nothing like you have described. Def hope your next one goes better!

i have my first fill on friday. do all doctors go through the port incision, cuz my port is to the left of my incision. it seems to me it would be harder to go through all that scar tissue.

They feel for the Port, and stick the needle in the Port and give you a fill. It's up to them what they want to give you

with some Dr.'s it's a money thing. Fill after Fill after Fill.

I went to a Hospital that put me under Fluoroscopy (LIKE A X RAY MACHINE FOR THE BAND, AND YOUR ORGANS.)

She seen the fill line,, filled me to that line, drank some Water to make sure that I wasn't to tight, and that was it.

3 months later I had a slight more added to it. But she put a little to much in, so I'll either work with it, or the end of

July have a little taken out. I would rather keep the fill though.

Kelli01, that sounds like it might be easier than the contortions I was in on the table. Maybe I'll ask if they ever do it that way at my next fill. Today is a week and finally the soreness has almost completely subsided. Yay!!! Thanks everyone for your feedback. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
