How long after surgery did you see the lbs start to go down?

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on Friday and I'm currently weighing 4-5lbs more than when I went in for surgery. I mean I'd say obviously I haven't really gained weight...

I know it's b/c I'm still bloated and still have the gas from the anesthesia in me...not to mention I have my period, but it's frustrating. I just wondered if this is normal...and if so, at what point did you start to see the scale reflect the right weight.

Thanks!

It took about 5 days to loose the Water weight from my IV. The I lost pretty steadily. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. Drink your water, walk, and get as much Protein as you can.

It's totally normal - they pump you full of saline before and during surgery. Don't fret. You will see change.

Give it a few weeks. The first few weeks are all about healing and resting.

They said that you might gain weight because of the IV-not to worry!! Let the swelling go down and start getting regular BMs and you'll be all set to go!!

It will come, the first 6 weeks are sbout healing. You may lose weight quickly on the liquid diet, then it may stall when you start incorporating food, so try not to get frusterated. I lost my first week post op, then fluctuated for week 2-5 until I got my calories back up to 1200, yeah it was annoying, but I seem not to lose with to low calories. It is normal for that to happen. Just so you know

I gained 15 lbs from the fluids in the hospital, but by 1 week post op that was all gone plus 6 more pounds. :D

Immediately. I lost weight pre-op and it kept going, even post-op, which was shocking. I had no Fluid retention at all. I'm paying for it now though because my weight loss has been veeery slim. Oh well! :)

I starting losing weight before surgery. The surgeon took me of steroids, when I told him my knee was still killing me (KNEE SHOT) So he took them all away. In about 2 days my Kidneys went back to normal. I lost 30Lbs in 30 days. I never Peed so much in my life! It was terrible. So as I was dieting for 12 months prior to surgery.

I saw the physical change happen at 50 Lbs of loss.

I guess it depends on how heavy you are to see the difference.

By the time I had surgery, I had lost over 100Lbs. by sticking to a 1200 calorie a day diet.

I lost 1 lbs the week after surgery and was so upset...having lost 22 on the pre op liquid diet. But the second week rolled around and I was logging in 3 more pound lost.... My Dr explained the first month is for healing and your body goes in shut down mode to protect itself...so what you are seeing on the scale is perfectly normal.

I had just got on the board to ask the same question. I am sitting at 212 and have been for the last 2 weeks.

I had the surgery on Wednesday and have been on nothing but clear liquids and one Protein smoothie a day.

I wish everyone well!!!

Thanks for all the replies. Glad to hear it seems pretty normal. I am at least back down to the weight that I went in to the hospital with today...so two days after. And hopefully I'll just see it go down from here...but it does seem to make sense like Floridays says that the body is in defense mode right now trying to take care of itself, so I'll just try to be patient :)

Everything evens out and becomes steady after about 6 weeks, then it's up to you on how good you are on your diet.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
