Hi all! This is my first post here. I got banded June 2. Still not feeling so great and have a complete lack of appetite but I know it will start getting better soon!!!!

I only had a week preop diet but definitely think it helped!

I still can't believe my surgery is tomorrow! This has been a process a couple of years in the making for me between saving money and finding the right doctor, doing pre-op stuff, etc etc. Wow ! It's really happening :D

Aaaannnndddd we're back. Just got back from the hospital. I'm shocked and amazed at how good I feel. I'm going to go post my story now in the surgery stories thread. Good luck to all other June 8th folks (and everyone else of course) I was thinking of you!

My pre-op is tomorrow morning and I go have my surgery Monday 6/13. I am now in the can't sleep, anxious, nervous, and excited all at the same time. So many emotions are all going at the same time I have made myself sick, but I guess that is normal. I went to the mall today and looked at some cute and "SMALL" outfits and began to wonder how quick ( I hope ) to be in them but left with a kick butt pair of heels that I will have waiting for one of those outfits! I am so ready to get this done!!

I feel your pain! I'm a week into my pre-op diet and it seems to be easier during the when I'm at work. The weekends seem to be my problem. Today was bad. I could have eaten anything i could find! I thought about gnawing my arm off but thought I might need it later :P. I would just drink more Water or eat some cantaloupe and remember why I'm doing this.

Good Luck!

I have to ask were you and the others told to do a pre-diet (liquid) as I was not...at least I do not remember that. Should I?

I go Mon 6/13 and I am scared and excited, sick to my stomach, etc. I was not told to do a pre-op diet, should I? Today is Wed and I only have a few days left, so not sure it matters now...I really have no clue what to do today or even any other things to do to prepare.

Any suggestions?

The surgeon requires a 2 week pre-op diet of Medifast. Replace 2 meals with medifast shakes and one healthy meal. We're not suppose to snack between meals. But if I don't have a piece of fruit, then I'm ready to start on my arm! I have 3 more days of it and then on to Clear Liquids for a day!

He wants us to lose 5-10lbs before surgery. I guess it is suppose to shrink the liver. Since the stomach is behind the liver, it makes it easier to move the liver out of the way to get to the stomach.

I guess it wouldn't hurt if you did!

Be excited for your new life ahead! Although so far it hasnt been easy- still not ready to get back to work and its been a week, but i think i had a tougher time than most.

So I had to do a week of full liquids (protein shakes, Soups, ices, applesauce, etc..all low fat/fat free and low sugar/sugar free variieties) Then the day before surgery it was clear liquids only like clear fruit juices, broth, sugar free ice pops etc.. Losing 5lbs before and eating low fat before surgery will shrink the liver, making your surgery easier to perform since they have to kinda move around the liver to do it. I also lost some weight during this time, but more importantly i think it helped me get used to not eating and chewing. I also think my hunger is well controlled from the prep. So I would highly recommend doing something like that on your own. I can give you more specifics if you're interested! GOOD LUCK!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
