Thanks LuLu-when I did my food chart I guess that I didn't do as bad as I had thought- just way tooo full. total of 1700 calories, which I know is tooooo much but still not as bad as I had thought. Started out today with my baked triple berry pancake-YUMMMY back on track. Thanks for everyone being there.

I think a key to this journey is realizing we will make bad choices/mistakes....but don't let it drag you down. Recognize that it was a choice and not in any way a bakcign otu of the journey. *** HUGS *** (none of us is perfect...my kids can tell you how much easter chocolate has disappeared)

Hey everyone! It has been a while since I have been on here... Well just a little update... I had my first fill last monday May 2, and I have lost 6lbs since! I am not eating as much now but still hungry just about every 2 or 3 hours... I started going to Zumba and I absolutely love it! I started keeping track of what I am eating so that I can make sure I am getting all the Protein and fluids that I need and to make sure Im not eatting more calories than I am supposed to! It seems to be helping! I am very happy with my progress thus far!! I can't wait to see where my journey takes me!! People are really starting to notice that I am losing and thats the best feeling in the world!!

I hope everyone is doing good!!

Hi everyone!!

I'm up 7 pounds!!! Yikes! Of course it's that TOM and my face and hands are so swollen. Still, I never noticed a drop after fill #2 even though portion size is down overall. BUT, I have been snacking and must stop. :( Lots of stress...my orientation ended at work and although I love what I do it's scary. My husband was laid off and isn;t qualifying for unemployment. My mom is in crisis. Ayway I'm afraid it's led to a lot of stress eating/snacking and I have to get it under control. I did just call for another fill appt, but am waiting till next week to let this swelling pass and I really want to get my mental eating in check before I go in, just as a personal goal of sorts.

I'm starting to enjoy being a bit more active. Spring has sprung here in the Pacific Northwest and I'm starting to do some planting. I got some free trelisses (sp?) and want to plant some grapes, and am planning to use some old tires we have to do some raised beds for yellow squash & zucchini gardens! I've discovered how yummy produce is. :D I'm beginning to really enjoy flavors of healthy, whole foods. A NSV of sorts I'd say? Oh and I'm trying to talk my hubby into building a chicken coop so we can have some fresh eggs. :D

Check in if you all can...I hope you're all doing well.

Well I had my first fill last Friday, and the scale is finally starting to move!!!!! Really trying to keep good track of my Protein intake. Trying lots of new recipes-what a learning experience all of this is. And they released me to go back to the gym!!!! Yeah!!! I didn't realize how much I missed it. Enjoying a dish of strawberry cheesecake protein icecream while typing away. Have a great evening everyone.

Thanks guys!!

I had a NSV yesterday too. Went to see a movie and fit in the seat  It was still snug, but I was in the same theater about 6-8 weeks ago and it was a BAD fit then...had to really wriggle to get sitauted. Yesterday I could sit down from a normal standing position and not have to squish my butt into it. It felt so good!!!

Thats great!!!! those little things mean so much, dont they??

Hey all!! Hope everyone is doing well. I'm home from vacation and I've already had my first fill yesterday. They put 3 cc's in, it felt so weird and right now I am not enjoying my liquid diet again!!! Only 1 more day at least. Disney was fun, didn't eat my best but I did a lot of walking so I still came back 3 lbs lighter!!! Very excited about that. Bad thing is I lost my job on Monday and my insurance is only good till the end of the month. My next fill is not until June 22nd, which seems so far away but I guess it's really not. Catching up on TV kinda enjoying being home, I'm sure I'll get bored soon enough though.

Bloo...it's Water weight, not form snacking. We all fluxuate, and hormones are often the culprit. It was just my TOM.

elizabeth, so glad you had fun in DL!!

having a tough time with mental hunger. Trying to get back in the habit of tea to keep my mouth occupied.

It feel so good to see the scale go down. I do Zumba 4 times a week and then attend the gym 3 times a week to do some weight lifting! Getting the lap band is the best thing that has happened to me in years! I love being active I find myself not wanting to lay around watching T.V. as much seems like I'm always grabbing my tennis shoes and heading out the door and that feels AMAZING! I wish you all the best of luck! WE CAN DO IT!!!

Good morning!

Well, hormones I guess have calmed down because the Water weight is finally shedding...and my band feels tight. I was only able to eat abotu half of my Breakfast (which was a serving greek yogurt w/ granola). Stomach is growling now, but I want to wait till noon to eat. So I'm off to get the kids ready for a Dr's appt to take my mind off the growling stomach! Hoping I can cancel my fill appt next week.

It's been aboout 43 days since my surgery and I wouldn't ever regret any of it. I had my surgery on March 31, 2011.

The day had started off as a pretty normal day since I had to drive the two hour trip to Louisville, KY. My surgery was scheduled for 2 pm but it didn’t actually occur until 5:30 pm because the doctor had an emergency. They gave my own room and told me to put on this gown, then i peed in a cup and the nurse gave me the TV remote and I sat with my family watching SpongeBob Squarepants. The longer it took them to hook me up to IV’s and take blood; I was getting more nervous by the second. The nurse called me a “virgin” because this was my first surgery that I’ve ever had. I remember laughing because I knew she was just trying to help me out.

After what seemed like forever, they finally came and wheeled me down. The anthologist gave me my cocktail shot and I was immediately calmed down. I remember talking about my college plans with the other doctors and they were all genuinely kind. I had never had that kind of service before at any hospital.

When I woke up, I immediately noticed that my mouth was dry. I was able to get some swabs of Water which was fine with me. I didn’t feel any different other than being kind of numb but that didn’t bother me because I was so tired. It took the nurses about 3 hours to get me into a room and by then it was already 10 pm. I remember my new nurse coming in to give me a morphine drop, which I absolutely hated because it gave me the worst headaches and made me nauseas so then they had to give me this anti-nausea medicine, which worked wonders.

I have to say it was a remarkable experience. It’s been 43 days now, I finally weight 235 and I’ve lost a shocking total of 40 pounds. My next goal is to weigh in at 220 lbs. by the time my graduation rolls around on June 5th.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
