Will I ever find proper restriction???

Recommended Posts

Uggg.....

I am either too tight or too loose and never just right....

I got a fill back in Feb and I was doing so well up until this past week when BAM I'm too tight and all I can eat is soup! WTH!!!

I will PB or even throw up if I attempt solid food and get the worst heaves when I vomit...Is it more then just being too tight? could my band have slipped but why out of the blue? or is it just TOM symptoms...

So frustrated right now!!!

I feel your pain. 2 weeks ago I ate something that I almost got stuck on. It hurt when it went down and I was uncomfortable but never threw up. I got a bad feeling that something wasn't quite right you know? Well the next morning I got up and took my medicine for the day and I threw up three times after that and I had awful dry heaves. I thought maybe I had a stomach virus. Turns out what I had eaten the night before really aggravated my band. I had to go back to liquids for 3 days and then I was fine after that.

How many CC's do you have in your band?

I have needed an unfil a few weeks- a month after a fill. Not sure why all of a sudden the band got tighter. I hear your pain. I feel like I spent too much time either hungry or too tight during my weight loss journey. Now that I am at goal, I choose to keep my band very loose- I monitor my weight carefully- weighing in every day. I base what I eat- or don't eat- on what the scale says. I wonder if I could have done it without the band. I guess I'll never know- the money spent was a huge motivator in any case. Good luck!

Believe it or not if your not full enough, everything can get hung up. I'm tighter now then I ever been, so no appetite, and as long as I eat slow, and chew it up everything is going down. Before that everything was getting hung up. So yeagh,,, How full are you?

3 cc in a 4cc band....

Oh. And you were banded this year? I thought they stopped using 4cc bands?

Either way maybe you've just irritated your stomach. Try hot liquids for a few days. Also keep in mind even the littlest things can change your level of restriction. Stress, hormones, the weather, TOM, etc.

Hope you find restriction soon!

The joys of banded life. The band can tighten or loosen a bit on its own and unless you can't drink Water, I'd just go with the flow and wait for it to loosen again.

I have a 4cc band too, mine is the old one, but it's one day at a time, and if you are not tight enough everything will get hung up. To tight, it will get stuck.

Good advice,,, there talking about (THE RED ZONE). Cant swallow saliva, you don't want to go there trust me....... Just make sure you can drink Water at the Dr.'s office.

Then liquids for 3 days. I have 2.5cc in my band, and I am not really hungry. Maybe every 5 hrs. That's what they told me is ideal, and it's working.

So Good Health To You, Shirley.

I pesronally no longer believe in the perfect fill level, because EVERYTHING affects our fill. The number of ccs we have doesn't change, but the restriction it gives us does.

The same 2cc may be too loose some days, or too tight other days. So since it's everything BUT the band that changes, how can there be a perfect restriction? :)

My philosophy is that it's better to be too loose and have to exercise my willpower, than to be too tight and be at increased risk for bad stuff to happen.

Honestly... I can go from wide open one day, to clamped down such that a glass of Water takes me 4 hours to drink. Hell, I can go from one extreme to the other in the SAME day. Yesterday I grazed all day, now I'm still working on the same 6 oz of juice I got 5 hours ago.

Have not yet had that experience. Been in the red zone though, and that is not fun at all.

I like mine snug, then there is no appetite issues. If I have to do fluids for a few days, I can handle that. We all can handle that.

So knock on wood *** I hope that doesn't happen in the near future,

I tried the snug route, and ended up having to get an unfill because I couldn't get my own saliva down. That did not make for a fun 1 hour drive down the interstate in someone else's car.

I know a lot of people who prefer the tight side, tho. Unfortunately for me when I'm tight, I'm usually too tight for fluids. And getting even 1/4 cc removed can make no difference, or enable loaves of bread.< /p>

Fickle b****, that band...

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
