Oh well

I guess I should have expected not to feel restriction on the first fill but I'm still a bit disappointed. So now I will wait for the second fill and hope my willpower will continue to help me along.

I hope everyone is doing well...it's kind of sad to see the January board so inactive. Where is everyone? How are you all making out?

I get my first fill Friday and I am nervous for the same thing. I am sorry that the first fill didn't do more for you. But you are doing great and hopefully you will find that restriction soon.

Whenis your next fill?

I was banded January 7th. Banded Hell is the worst! I can't wait to feel restriction. I don't get a fill until March 1 and I know I'm going to need a couple of them.

Sometimes I get discouraged, like I did this surgery and got cut open and I'm just on a plan diet right now. I can't wait until I can actually use my band as the tool it was intended to be.

i also feel a lack of restriction... i mean i feel a little bit but I don't know whats what ya know? I wish there was some kind of rule book for how things feel... the sucky part is the mental hunger. I think thats the biggest hurdle to overcome

My surgery was the 11th of January. You are right, I didn't notice much of a restriction after the first fill but the second was a different story. The first fill was 6 cc's and my second was 1.5. When I had the placement done, my doctor used the large band (14cc's) and I was told that no one ever goes over 11 though. I can tell the restriction but then again I just had mine done last Thursday (3-10) and am now on phase two of the diet, patiently awaiting the day to eat regular solid food again, lol!

Will Power is a difficult thing to find when one never had it to begin with. I look at it more as the positive benefit out weighs the negative aspect!

Have a great day!

Shannon

I know I responded to this a few months ago, but my mindset has changed. No, I still don't have restriction but I had to realize something. FILLS ARE NOT THE KEY TO WEIGHT LOSS! We are the key! Yes, fills help us have restriction, but we still have to eat right and get up and exercise. Now, I don't deprive myself of any foods, unless I know it's going to get stuck, but I do stay between 1200-1500 calories and I exercise 30-90 minutes a day for 5 days a week. The scale is moving. I'm at the point now that if I dont' hit my sweet spot for a few fills, I'm ok with that. I'm losing weight and because I know I have the band, I don't go overboard with my eating.

My husband made some really healthy black bean chili. It was sooooo good. Guess what? My band didn't like it. I ended up throwing it all up later that night. And I know why. I ate 2 bowls of it. Bad bad bad. So even though I ate healthy I ate way to much.

LESSON LEARNED FOR SURE!!! LOL

I just had my second fill since surgery and wow it is different so far. I hope it stays this way. I didn't feel to much after my first. Mostly stuff just got stuck easier. But hunger and amount of food was about the same.

What size band do you have and how much fill did you get?

Hang in there you are doing great and you will continue!

HI.....I had my band on January 18th.....and have had one fill of 5cc.........but never feel any restriction.....have only lost 27 lbs in two months....so it seems rather slow to me....and I THINK most of the weight lost was from just the days on liquid Protein and Water diet My friends say I look better, so far....but my husband keeps staring at me....in confusion....like: when are you going to drop weight??? LOL. YES, I have noticed the January Bandsters are not out chatting in here. BTW, I live in AZ and am middle aged. Keep in touch.....how did you lose so much so fast???? Of course, I have a broken kneecap....so I can barely walk....so I have some problems that way. Take care, Cheri

Stephy, I'm glad your second fill went so well, that's really great! I don't have an appointment for my next one but it should be around April 8th, my centre does them every month. My band is a 10cc band and so far I have a little over 4cc in it. Next fill should take me to 5cc.

Cheri, my surgery was Jan 5th and I was on a pre-op diet for just over two weeks (it was brutal over Christmas) so I've been going a bit longer than you. I have been doing quite a bit of exercise; I joined a gym and while I have one knee that gives me trouble, it's been getting better as the weight has been dropping off. I'm in Canada and paid for this surgery out of our retirement savings so I have a huge motivating factor to not disappoint myself or my husband. I wanted to live long enough to have a retirement! I think 27 lb in 2 months is fantastic, especially if you have mobility problems! Keep it up :)

I had my first fill (5.5 cc) 2 weeks ago, and still feel the same as no fill. I have never PB'd, slimed, or been stuck. Not that I want to, just pointing it out. lol

Don't be disappointed. I felt no restriction at all after my first fill. However, after the second fill I immediately felt restriction and have begun (slowly), but nonetheless begun to lose weight.

27 pounds in two months is great! I've only lost 16 pounds and I was banded January 24th. And like you, lost of my weight loss came from the liquid diet before the surgery.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
