"sweet spot", how many cc's to reach yours?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 10cc band and have had one fill so far and am now at 4.5cc. I hardly have any restriction. My next fill is Feb. 4th.

How many cc's in your band did it take to reach your "sweet spot"?

Thanks, Joan

I'm so glad you posted this. My surgery was 11/22nd. First fill was 2 weeks ago 3.3cc and I hardly have any restriction.

I have lost about 13 lbs .... I feel like I eat the same I did before just slower!

Have you lost any weight?

Hi Ladybug,

My surgery was December 2nd. I've lost only 9 pounds since then. :( I am definetly looking forward to my fill on Friday! When is your next fill scheduled for? I agree that my appetite and capacity are about the same as pre-band.

My sweet spot has been 5.3cc in a 10cc band for a very long time. We will all be very different though. It depends on how thick your stomach tissue is and how think the fat is they include between the stomach wall and the band.

Interesting. I didn't know they wrapped the band around fat as well as the stomach? I know my NP said that the band often needs more Fluid as weight loss occurs since it has less pressure. I figured it was surrounding fat but I guess it can be fat between the band and the stomach? I am glad to hear you've done so well with such a small amount in your band. I am hoping that my fill Friday will get me to my sweet spot.

I was at dr on Jan 25. I didn't get a fill, but I wanted one. I haven't had one yet. I answered all the questions and then he told me I didn't need one. I did the flouro and he showed me my band and said it looks like I do have restriction. I have about 2cc in my band from surgery. I told him I am fighting hunger every hour of the day. He told me there really is not a sweet spot, that its a myth. Told me that willpower is a very big part of it. I am losing weight, about 1 lb a week, and my dr likes it that way. I am feeling a bit depressed. I thought I would get some more help from my band with appetite control. If I could do all this myself, why did I spend all the money and effort on my band? I go back in 6wk, so hopefully I can convince him for a fill.

Wow! That's harsh! I think I would be searching for another dr by now.

M<y doctor, who has a lap band himself, was ready to fill me even though I was losing like you, he said let's help you along more or something like that.

Do you live in an area where you can see another provider?

Not quite sure what it is supposed to feel like? I have 5.5ccs I can eat a pretty good amount, but I am full after I eat, and I'm full for a long time, I am losing weight. But it won't ever stop me from eating, i have to do that.

I'm guessing there isn't such a thing as a sweet spot either... just the spot where you start PBing all the time because you physically can't get food down... then obviously you will lose weight, but for me I was never hungry after surgery, guess I'm lucky!

Yea my doctor was eager to fill me too.

If you are hungry all the time, it sounds like you need a fill. I've had 2 fills and I'm at 4cc in a 10cc band. I feel restriction but I'm not sure it is restricted enough. However, it does take a while for my food to go down. I particularly notice a "bulge" in my stomach when it is time to go to sleep and I often feel gas in the evening. I finish dinner around 7pm so and go to bed around 12 midnight so that is a lot of time for my food to digest and go down into my stomach. I'm not sure why it takes so long or why I have gas issues. Anyone else have these issues? I've had 2 episodes of PBs. Does this mean I should NOT get another fill? Maxi

I am so glad you posted. I am having the same difficulty! My doctors nurse told me to just go hungry and if I could do that why would I have needed the surgery. I am at 7.2 cc in a 10 cc band and have very little restriction. I can eat anything and the nutritionist said I should be having trouble with bread and carbonation. Not me! I hope someone writes in, and gives us some hope that it is a matter of time and soon we will not be hungry so often!

Hi,

i am in the same boat as you all, an I am so relieved that I am not alone in this. I haven't had a fill since Oct and constantly feel hungry. As you have all said, if we could resist the urges of hunger, we wouldn't have had to go through the risk of an anaesthetic and spend our saving for the pleasure of having the band in the first place.I too hang onto the hope that someone replys with some positive words.

Heres hoping

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
