How much do you eat?

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on the 29th of dec. And I eat about a cup of food each meal and have 3 meals a day! Now when I get my first fill will I eat less then that?

I was banded on the 5th of this month and today I had a whole can of Primo roast chicken noodle soup! I couldn't believe I ate the whole thing! I started a food journal to count my calories a few days ago and was surprised to find that I was only getting about 700-800 a day. I want to try to get that up to 1200 so that I don't feel deprived and end up losing control. So I'm with you, I can eat at least a cup at a time, more if it's liquidy like Soup and I'm taking it slow. I'm still on stuff like yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, soft veggies etc. I'm going to start at the gym this week so I'm sure that will make me hungrier.

As for the fill, it depends how much they add when they do it and how much you already have in. My doc says they only put in 1cc to test for leaks in the surgery so I know there is a lot of room left before I might feel any restriction. When do you get your first fill?

Hi Luv,

I think it's hard to answer this question because it really depends on how much fill you get, and how much resulting restriction you have. I don't claim to be an expert, but my experience after four fills has been that each time I can eat less at each meal. I'm not at my sweet spot yet though. I think I probably need maybe one more fill. I'm currently at 7.8cc in an 11cc band. But I still can eat probably 3/4 to 1 cup per meal (lunch and dinner) but I can only eat oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast. So I think I'm able to eat too much at each meal, and I do get hungry between meals from time to time.

I was banded on Jan 6, 2011 and I haven't gotten my first fill yet. However I think I might be eating to much I can eat a cup if not more depending on what it is. It does keep me full and I have gained a few lbs but from what I've been reading on here from others, is that this can happen not to worry. So now I'm going to be mindful of what I'm eating, which is all the stuff on the list. I was thinking now that my body has more than just liquids it's like I'm holding on to the food.

I'm just scared I might be stretching my pouch :(.

Sorry I'm not helping you much but thought others could chime in on me as well. I find it hard to get all the Protein and liquids down so I know I'm not taking in to many calories ,

Thanks

I know what you mean, I was banded on 1/14/11. Still on the liquid portion of the post diet, but have noticed that I am startind to get hungry and don't know when I will receive my first fill. Very concerned about hunger issues, reading this forum people get fills at no specific time frame. Anybody have any advise?

Also forgot to mention. At supper I can usually eat more. If I am eating Soup like I did tonight, I may get in over 1/2 cup. solid food it is less than 1/2 cup or right at 1/2 cup.

I'm sure I eat more than a 'cup' of food. My doctor never did the volume thing. He said 3 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup vegies, 1/4 cup starch. The risk of being overfilled increases when attempting to limit physical restriction to 1/2 cup...and even then may not limit the physical volume of food except by causing stuck episodes and sliming which may cause band area swelling and more stuck and sliming episodes.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
