Two weeks out, gaining week?

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to get really frustrated about this surgery. During the pre-op phase, I lost 23 pounds, and the first three days after surgery, I dropped another 10. Since that point, I have either stayed the same or gained weight every single day. My fiance had the same surgery a week prior to me, and she is dealing with the same thing.

I just don't get it. In diets of the past, if I had eaten this amount of food, I would have been dropping 5-10 pounds a week...but after the band, it's nothing. I was expecting rapid weight loss (and was pretty much guaranteed this by my Doctor, as long as I followed the guidelines, which I have), but at this point, I'm starving myself and eating foods that disgust me (protein shakes) for nothing.

Has anyone else had these problems after the surgery? I understand the argument about swelling, but if that was the case, I would have gained in the days following surgery. I also understand plateau's, but this has been going on for 12 days now. I weigh almost 400 pounds and am surviving on less than 1000 calories a day...it's ridiculous.

Hi,

Congratulations on your surgery!

I am about 8 weeks post op now....so still new at this.....

I have never heard the band being touted for rapid weight loss.....more of a slow, steady 2 lbs per week. If you look at your total weight loss so far----it is AMAZING.

There is nothing magical about the band. It is a tool to help us, but we still have to do the hard work. You are also entering Bandster Hell.....the point before you have any fills and have no restriction. Most people are very hungry during this phase. This is the time to let your body heal from surgery. It can take several fills before you achieve restriction.

While I am down 40 lbs, I know the scale hasn't moved in a week or so......but I go for another fill on Monday, and that will help me.

Stay focused on the positive---you have done amazing....

Jackie

First Congrats to you and your fiance on your surgery, Second , i don't know if you have ever heard of the 2 week stall very common after WLS, your bodies are still healing and needs to adjust to your new tool. Im sure once everything will be ok. Good luck to the both of you and keep me updated

I fell the same way! I was banded on December 14th. So today is exactly 2 weeks and I am allowed to finally start mushie foods!.

I feel like I have been starving the last 2 weeks and and have had no food just liquids. I feel like if I had done this before I would've lost 20 pounds. Since starting the whole journey I have only lost 10 pounds. When I weighed myself this morning I was still the same for the last 2 days. So I'm hopeing that it starts coming off a little faster.

I don't know why I'm not losing weight faster either?

Have you added some exercise? If not I think this will help your body use some calories up. I know for me low cal alone won't get me to lose but throw in just 30 min of something aerobic and I lose. I am 4 wks postoperative and losing 1-2 lb without a fill. I turned down a fill on Tues. I either walk 30 min or do a Wii activity for 30-40 min. I also eat a few more cals daily, 1100-1200, but follow you dr orders.

I only lost 1 pound the first month after my surgery. Don't be discouraged because it will start coming off quickly.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
