Blah, I'm in kind of a funk these past 2 weeks. I hit 199#, then TOM came and went and I can't seem to move past. Doing the same things, kickboxing 6 days a week. Not sure if I should play with my calories. I do 1200. Should I try to go up a tiny bit? Should I go down? Idk. I need to make an appointment to get a 2nd fill. I've been hungry and I think I would like a little more. Also I've been letting things annoy me which is really bothering me. I haven't really felt this way since before surgery, I'd been feeling awesome, now I can't seem to get myself out of this. I think once the scale starts moving again I'll feel better.

My motto is one day at a time, and slow n steady wins the race! Congrats on getting into a size 14! Sometimes the scale doesn't show us what we want, but pictures and clothing do!

Hello, Everyone. My six month anniversary is Wednesday. That's my official weigh-day, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm on the slow train like a few others here. I usually don't post that often because my stats pale in comparison to everyone else. Yes, I've lost more banded than I would have normally, but it's still a LOT less than I anticipated. But I said I wasn't going to complain this time. Instead, I'll share my good news. I can fit a size 14 pants!!! I gave away all of my 18's and I'm piling up the 16's. I've been shopping at the thrift stores and finding all kind of good stuff.

Although my clothes were fitting differently and I had lost 25 pounds on the scale, I still wasn't too convinced. Then one of my friends (she was banded Jan 20) came and we took pic's of each other. OMG, I really have lost weight. I look pretty good :-)

Lastly, my friend had to get an unfill for a couple of days. We went out to eat and she ate until she was stuffed. She was so miserable and said she did not miss that at all. Just watching her was enough for me. We talked about the difference between being full and being restricted. I'm learning to stop at restriction and not waiting to feel full. It may sound really simple to some people, but it was an "aha moment" for the two of us. It's made a difference since my fill a week and half ago. I know that eventually the pounds will fall off. They better, I've been working out three days a week since March!

Our thread was six pages deep on the forum!! Let's have a check in!

I have less than forty pounds to goal now. I can't believe it. I just started running two weeks ago and am already up to running for 40 minutes. When I was heavier it took me six weeks to get up to 8 minutes straight. I also began training for a triathlon which is on September 11. Im scared but feeling good.

How is everyone else doing?

As I've posted in other threads, things are going really well for me. I'm down 105 pounds so far, and am realistically less than 25 pounds from my adjusted goal weight. Working out four or five times a week, eating well, sleeping well, and I'm having no trouble. I'm constantly amazed this has all worked out so well, and that it has been so quick for me. It's all been pretty "textbook." The PA who does my fills jokes that if there was a poster boy for being a bandster, I'd be that guy. :)

Wow, you've never had a fill! The band and how we each react to it is so varied. I have had multiple fills, deflates, fills...

I think I am doing well. My start weight preop diet was 232 and I weighed 195 this AM. I try to get all 4 food groups in each day and to drink lots of Water and tea. My body is shrinking with good tone which I am happy about especially since I am 50. I do get stuck and vomit occasionally and sometimes this is without much rhyme or reason. All my weight related ailments have disappeared. I enjoy food but not much of it. I think I am at my sweet spot now but might still be a wee bit tight. I vomited 2 days ago and had terrible stomach pains for 5 hours before I vomited. I am gonna buy some papaya enzyme to keep on hand for emergencies.

Todays meals have been, a Protein Shake made with LF milk, a cup or so of popcorn, cottage cheese with applesauce, 1/4 of a banana, 1/2 cup of homemade chile con carne, made with diced tomatoes, lean beef and pinto Beans. I would like to eat more fruits and veggies since they are so important, (I am an RN and a bit obsessive, lol) but only so much will fit and I know that Protein is the most important. I know I do get adequate nutrients from my daily shake and Vitamins.< /p>

Check in and say hi!

Joan

Hello,

I had another small deflate today, .5cc. My band total is now 5cc. I vomited a few times this week and had some night reflux. I did lose 4 # this week. :D

I hope everyone is doing well!

I'm doing excellent! I've had some good looses the past couple of weeks. I think I may have figured out what works best for me. Which seems to be having a daynor two of eating under 1000 calories and the rest eating the normal 1200-1300. I have an appointment on Thursday and I'm still trying to decide if I want to get a fill. I'll talk to the doc. I am hungry between meals but I'm losing fine and don't want to run into problems, though I only have 0.75 ml in my band.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
