Okay, I have to share this yummy treat I just tried. I love coffee with A LOT of cream, therefore I had to give up my coffee after surgery. I tried the sugar free syrups and artificial sweeteners, and I just did not like the taste. I finally came across something yummy! The brand is CLICK. The flavoe is vanilla Latte. It is a Protein supplement with 15 grams of protein in a serving. It actually has expresso in it, so it wakes me up. IT TASTES GREAT! This is my new cup of coffee each morning! I purchased it on Amazon.com. Some GNC stores carry it. There is a Click website also. I also purchased the Mocha flavor, but haven't tried it yet. I'm loving the Vanilla Latte. It is a little high on carbs, but I think it's a great coffee substitue AND it has protein. You can drink it hot or cold. I prefer hot.

pumpkin Custard

* 15 oz can pumpkin

* 12 oz can evaporated nonfat milk

* 2 eggs

* 1 tsp cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice

Mix and bake in a baking dish or pie plate at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Custard will set as it cools.

Pumpkin is considered a "superfood," so it's great for you as well as being a sweet treat.

Hey HokieMama,

I've had Click's Mocha flavor and I really like it :) My sister ordered it for me off Amazon... I don't drink it as much now that I am on soft foods and trying to get my Protein from that. But I used to mix it with skim milk for a cold drink, or decaff coffee for a mocha drink. It was my main thing for Breakfast during the liquids stage :)

Putting a lil SF irish creme Syrup in it tastes good too! Hope you like it!

Brooke: Thank you for letting me know about the recipes on lapband.com. I tried one today and LOVED it! The speghetti squash was very tasty! I didn't put meat in my sauce but otherwise, I followed the recipe. I found the squash a good replacement for noodles. I am very picky about veggies. I don't like a lot of them, but this..I will eat again!! :D

I was only recently banded on December 6th so I'm just about to switch over to real food. But, I love to cook and I've made it my 2011 goal to recreate my favorite recipes in a healthier fashion. I'm also experimenting with alternative foods (ie cauliflower "rice", Carrot "noodles") I've been making the recipes, calculating the nutritional information and photographing them. I'm gonna try and do one a day, but we'll see.

Anyhow, here's a link to my Blog where I'm posting them.

Lap-band friendly Recipes

Last night I made a great French Soup that usually calls for heavy cream and butter. I used fat free half and half instead and truvia instead of sugar.

Stolen and adapted from Betsy B.

Protein shake mix-vanilla (Proti)

table spoon of FF SF chocolate pudding mix

Almond milk instead of Water.

Throw in blender. Yummy! i was bad w/ my shakes until I read this on here. It does not work as well w/ chocolate Protein mix. Maybe it is the brand my surgeon carries.....

When I get the munchies, I make a cup of broth, heat it up, and pour just a little of the low calorie instant mashed potatos....it fills you up without loading the calories....it kinda sticks to your ribs! all you mushie people will love this... and I have been banded for 5 months, and besides the fact there is a lot of sodium, those of you can get reduced sodium broth.

If you are on full food, sometimes we just get the craving to graze, and this puts a stopper to that! Good Luck!

Oh yeah,

pickles and celery are great fillers that really don't require any writting down in the food journal. You are all journaling aren't you? That is what has totally saved my ass, or helped it to shrink! Hahaha!

Duh! I have not been journaling! Oh, I'm going to start today! Thank your for your broth/potatoe idea! That does sound like a good warm treat! Quick too! I had to journal for my first 2 weeks to make sure I got my Protein and liquid in. After that, I stopped. I really need to so that I can keep a closer eye on my nutrition. I have just focused on the scale but I need to remember the Protein and Vitamins so I don't have hair loss or other deficiency side effects! You are doing awesdome girl! I enjoy your comments.

None of you have problems with these things, as in eating too much, causing cravings for more 'goodies', etc.?

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
