I haven't had a fill yet and I'm starving, depressed, and stressed out. I look at everyone's else's weightloss tickers and feel horrible because I'm not losing and I feel like a big fat failure less than one month after being banded.

I have only lost 3pounds in the last 4 weeks, I mentioned it to my doctor at my fill this morning and he said not to worry as the weight loss was not the important thing at this stage. I was starting to feel it wasn't going to work because although I haven't been physically hungry over the last 2 weeks I have been struggling with head hunger, sfter this fill I feel much more optomistic. Hang in there it does get better:)

I just had my band put in nov.10th 2010, now i know ihaven't had a fill yet, but i am hungry. is this because i don't have any Fluid in my band to make it tight ?

I had my band put in the 10th too! im getting my first fill this afternoon, but up until now i have only lost the 10lbs i lost on my liquid diet preop. and im starving all the time. Since 10 days after surgery i have been able to eat real food, i eat just like i did before the surgery. i hope the fill helps! good luck to you as well and ill keep ya posted :)

Randee - You're just eating 4oz? I guess you did just get banded recently, so I guess you'll work up to a little more. I eat 2/3 cup to 1 cup each meal. Somethings I've come to find make me more satisfied with a smaller amount. Like, cottage cheese. Good luck to you.

Lemon chick, I thought we were only supposed to eat 4oz? A cup might be more satisfying. I don't get a fill until Jan. 7 because I'm going to Florida for 2 weeks for the holidays.

I can't wait for the fill. I was banded Nov 19 I know the weight will come off. I decided to only weight myself once a week so I don't obsess about it.

I'm having trouble with the timing of eating and exercising with work but I know it's a process. I'm so glad to have a place to speak out. Thanks!

Hi Elfie

I think I read somewhere that this effect lasts about a year...do you know if this is right? I am 7 weeks out and get my first fill tomorrow. I am not really hungry but am fighting head hunger. I could probably manage without a fill but maybe need the physical restriction.

I'm not Elfie, but hope you don't mind if I respond.

I've been banded for well over a year and I still have good appetite control. I think the year window you've heard mentioned for good appetite dimming and weight loss is more applicable to RNY (bypass) patients. I had a WLS nurse who kept telling me I was past the "honeymoon" stage. I vehemently disagree with her. I don't believe in the honeymoon stage when it comes to banding.

JMO.. YMMV.

It's hard to believe you can eat as you did before... I can barley eat but i dont feel that I am losing either. For some reason I honestly believe my band has a fill because I can tell a huge difference after a few sips of Water I feel it in my chest and can't drink anymore. I suppose to get first fill on Dec 14 but i do not know about that because i can't eat as is.

How are you feeling after your first fill? Are you filled up quickly now? I have my band for 2 weeks and I can eat anything just like before, i can't wait for the fill. People keep asking me how much I lost, it's kinda weird becasue I haven't lost anymore since the first week. I can't wait until 4 oz. fills me up. Let me know how's it going and how you feel. I hope great!

That is for the vertical sleeve. When they remove the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin, this effect lasts for roughly a year and then the body 'finds a way' to produce it any way.

With the band, we are not completely removing the stomachs ability to produce the hormone so it's not finding it necessary to produce it in another way. We're just slowing the overproduction. For example, about an hour or so before it's time to eat, my stomach starts little growling noises or lets me know it's time to eat. That's the ghrelin. The rest of the time, I'm content because the band does to those vagus nerves what food in the stomach does for 'normal' people whose hunger goes away when they eat.

I wouldn't look for 'physical restriction'. It doesn't work that way for everyone. Look for cessation of hunger...and learn what is real hunger and what is just bad habits and head hunger. :)

I feel great! I definatly feel a difference, he gave me 2 ccs for a total of 4 ccs in a 12cc band. im still able to put away a happy meal but im full for 3 or 4 hours after eating it. Im still waiting for that 4 oz to fill me up as well, then maybe ill start losing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
