Dont be worried, I now regret my regrets!

Recommended Posts

I just posted this to let people who are "on the fence" about it know its not at all what I thought. I thought I would be miserable because I would have to give up eating everything I like. So far I've only given up little while gaining alot(for once Im not referring to gaining weight). I would assume many people feel as I did. So far its been a very easy transition and like I said I still have a long way to go but it hasnt been the doom & gloom I thought it was going to be. I still cant find the motivation to exercise like I should and I dont always make the right choices but Im not the kind of person who can change everything in one day, I need to make gradual changes for it to work. But Its been pretty easy so far.

Bob, thank you for this post. I am in the beginning stages of deciding if this is the right choice for me, and your post makes me feel a little less scared.

I DO NOT want to have surgery, however, when it comes to eating I can't seem to stop. More than not wanting to have surgery, I want to LIVE to watch my children grow up.

thank you for this positive message and post.

Congrats to everyone. I too waited a long time to get my band I looked into it for about 2 years, I was scared about the surgery that I use to all was chicken out from going to the seminars. I know chicken but now I have lost over 200 lbs and I feel great, It has by far the best decision I ever made. I would tell anyone the Lap band saved my life.

Good Luck to everyone on their journey of healthier living 4 more pounds to goal.

Jon

I will not be banded until tomorrow and I think we all fear the unknown but everyone seems to be so positive about the change. I look forward to going shopping at normal stores soon.

I totally agree with Bob...getting the lap band is the best thing that I have ever done for myself! I was banded almost 6 months ago and I have lost 84 of the 124 pounds that I need to lose to reach my goal!

It has been so much easier than I expected. Even on my surgery day I had doubts and questioned if getting the lap band was the right decision. Of all of my fears, the biggest is that it just would not work for me and I would fail at the lap band just like I had failed at losing weight in the past. I wasn't sure that I could give up soft drinks and bread, but it has not been a struggle. I simply don't desire those things anymore!

I feel like the lap band is a wonderful gift and my only regret is not giving it myself sooner! My advice, do your research, find a good doctor, and then go for it!

Michelle

Thank you for your insight. Like you, I have been on the fence for months! I just received the news yesterday that my surgery has been approved and set for December 3rd. I have been trying to diet myself hoping that I would not have to proceed with surgery however I know it is the right choice for me. Can you tell me if you did the realize or LAP-BAND®? and how did you feel after surgery? I am scheduled for the 4 hour class next week to go over these questions however can you fell me in for now?:)

Im not sure who your asking but Ill answer. I had an 11cc realize band on March 10 of this year. I went back to work in 2 1/2 weeks(plumber). I felt like I could have gone back after the first week. I felt a little discomfort the first and second day, I think it was mostly from the meds and gas pains but the 3rd day was totally different, I felt much better the 3rd day. The actual surgery was what scared me most but it was a breeze. Theres really nothing to worry about.

I remember your posts from the beginning Bob (we were banded around the same time) and i have to admit they were a bit hard to take sometimes......but what a dramatic change! It's so great to see that you are emerging out of that dark place you were in. Keep moving towards the light!

Im not sure what dark place your talking about.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
